utilizing leftover food

I dedicate this thread to leftover food items..feel free to share any experiences and insights..

my mom made sandwitches in the iftar today..and i didn’t let her throw away the left over sides of bread..i have a box full of bread sides.. i thought i should utilize it somehow..so anyone got any ideas how to use left over parts of bread?

u can make bread crumbs an mix any italian seasoning or u can make croutons.. jus put some olive oil, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and sage.. an pop them on the oven an let them bake till theyre super crispy (NOT BURNT) put them in a ziplock an enjoy home baked croutons with delicious salad

dunk them in mayo and chug em down. thats what i always do. if you have a mayo container thats on the verge of finishing, put them all in that container. that way you get to scrape off the unreachable mayo thats normally stuck on the inside of the container.

sometimes we deep fry em (or bake to crispiness like dev said) and make breadsticks. then we have em with soup.

theres many other things but i cant recall any at the moment :)

Fried chicken
1. Bake the leftover bread bits until they're golden brown
2. Chop 'em up well so the resulting stuff is almost the consistency of flour (I think my stepmom puts them into a mixer or whatever it's called)
3. Dip chicken pieces into a mixture of egg, milk, salt, laal mirch, and black pepper (vary according to taste)
4. Coat the chicken with the bread stuff
5. Deep fry

Some rice stuff
1. Boil rice
2. Chop mozzarella cheese
3. Put rice, grated cheese, finely chopped boiled carrots and other veggies you like (not tamatars and onions and aloos though) into a bowl
4. Season according to taste
5. Mash the mixture up a little and make patties
6. Dip in egg
7. Coat with bread crumbs
8. Fry

Jeez, I'm getting so sughar.

Oh yeah, I'm looking for the ideal dip for the rice patties thing. Any ideas anybody?

Well, interesting thread. Good points there Che and Dev.

I think If you have left over chicken with very little curry in it, try to put that into that yellow daal. I guess masoor ki daal and , yummy, you'll feel the difference. I know that you can do that with Knor cubes too but this is most handy.

The same chicken can be utilized for yet another thing. We call it our home made pizza :D Take that left over chicken/ beef and shred it. THen make omellete with it. YOu can also add mozerella cheeze in that omellete. Its sooo tasty. :( I wanna make it someday. Maybe in Sehri. :D

Qruis, how about Bread and Butter Pudding? Its not as gross as it sounds and actually works best with stale bread.

for a very crispy crumby chicken or any kinda paaties... mix corn falkes and potato chips (equal amount... crush them so theyre into tiny pieces.. dont puree.. jus crush,,, an put whatever masala u put on chiken patties wagra wagera.. dip it in egg an thne the crumbs.. it makes a very nice crispy coating

with usually leftover salaan.. i fry the pyaaz till its golden brown .. put pieces of aloo.. an fry them tfor 5 mins.. ten i put the sallan in... and till the salan is BHOONING i prepare in a bowl whipped dahi with lehsan adrak 1-2 tsp shaan bombay briyani masala, 1 tomatoe and miz it all in with a fork... put it in with salan... and bhoon it for 5 -6 mins.. and then u put in the rice.. (i cup rice = 1-1 1/2 cup of water) and let the water dry up on medium aanch... its a very delicious dishhieee

i hate it when containers and bottles get finished but there is lots of useful moula still stuck on the walls and you cannot poke your fingers inside em. heres some nice retrieval ideas:

ketchup bottle: put a few drops of water in the bottle and shake vigorously. the resulting ketchup gets a lil watery but you get the satisfying feeling of all ur money well spent :-D

mayo jar: refer to post above.

rooh afza: put some water in again (like half a cup) and shake like crazy. instant rooh afza and you get to drink it from the bottle :D

hmm. i thought i had others. cant recall any. will revisit :--)

I am agreeing with the first poster.

Mix your dried bread crumbs with some fresh Hamberger meat, about 2 lbs, or less. 1.5

Grab a frozen block of Spinach out of your Freezer, or better yet fresh.

However, 2 cups is needed...at minimum 1.5 Devein the spinach.

Add the spinach to the meat.

An an Egg. (if allowed)

and a bit of bazil.

6 oz of tomato paste.

a clove a garlic.

Mix it up.

Place in a tube pan and bake.

Measure the temperature to 188 degrees, sliced.

Put in the icebox until tomorrow.

Bake.

:) :)

Next day..early...

Preheat..your oven.

325

Ok..you allready know your meatloaf is perfect.

Go to the bakery..and grab a good loaf of bread. (great for sandwitches)

I tend to like sour dough..or rye bread.

So far this dinner has cost about $6.00 bucks.

:) :) ;)

Qrius, you can always save it and then go to a nearby pond and feed the ducks/birds (if its allowed - some places dont allow it). smile

Put that 6 dollar meatloaf in the fridge for a bit.. It's early.

We will make a desert in the oven... and a yummy main course on the side.

Orange cake.

Delicious with chocalate..but also without any icing at all.

Vanilla cake mix.. (cheapest you can find as you shop)

ok..follow the directions... add 3 eggs.. 1/4 cup oil.

also...add a package of orange jello.

And a serving of yogurt.

Whip em up...till smooth but semi stiff.

Pour into angelfood cake pan...or bundt pan and bake 1 hour..

(nape time:)

ok..here is where I need some input?

What to serve with meatloaf? besides sandwitches?

Or..after the meatloaf has baked? yeah..and cooled? yeah

Slice thinly.

Have some nice good warm bread in the kitchen.

Meaty bread..like ryebread, or Pumpernickel, or some nice Italian bread.

Also some nice slices of cucumber, and plum tomato, perhaps an avacodo.

Some good cheese. (if you can have cheeze with your meat?) If not..ignore this.

It will work as desert....

Start the water to boil.

You shall either serve rice? or broccoli? or pasta.?

(Depends on what you like)

I suggest a rice and brocolli mix.

Boil til almost done...draine.. add some cream of mushroom soup? ( a can might work?) and some nice motzorella cheese. And your cooked brocolli. :)

Is this easy or what?

Simple, Tasty Elegant Supper.

Make your own great tasting sandwichs from the meatloaf and, veggies.

(tomato, Avacodo, Cucumber)

Good cheeses.

(Proveil? Mozorello, Cheddar, Provolone, sliced very thin.) (if allowed)

Good freshly made breads, pumperknickel, rye, italian, cuban...
(also good with a homade tortilla)

Good dressing would be, ceasar and honey mustard, and perhaps a Lite Blue cheeze.

yummy.

A good bottle of white wine if you partake, if not? A nice sparkling grapejuice (n/A) would be good.

Re: utilizing leftover food

um…try dipping the left over sides of bread into chai (tea)…it’s quite delicious…:yummy:

** Deviliciousss, cheegum, Sarah, losty, AvgAmericanGirl, Munni and little human ** thank you all so much for your input :)

** Shahreen, ** and how do make it?

oh oh i almost forgot !! shahi tukray!!! dont know the details but i think you fry bread and then dip it in sweetened milk. awesome dessert!!

Sounds kinda like French Toast.

Dip your day old, or so bread in egg.. remove the yolk, or just the white.

add a bit of milk...

Add just a bit of butter to a fry pan.

Warm the pan.. dip the bread in the egg.

fry.

sprinkle powdered sugar.

Or eat with some nice Jam.
