When i was a kid i used to see the ads for Utility stores in TV and it was advertised as great one stop shopping point for the hosue hold items for an average middle class pakistani. My dad used to do the grocery so i vener had to go to get something from Utility stores in Jhelum so i am not sure how much relief those stores provided to people.
Can you tell me what is the current stat of Utility Stores in Pak??
if they are not providing relief to people then where do u think they have gone wrong and what they can do to get better.?
they are pretty good stores with very decent prices compared to the market. cause these are under government control, govt tend to balance the inflation by open market profit makers.

R u talking about the stores owned by government under the name "Utility stores".
I only bought sugar once coz it was supposed to be cheap.. but then the quality was pathetic.
and I guess thats how they operate.. substandard items.. and then beating the drum that government is providing cheap consumer items to ppl of pakistan.
In the late 80s and early 90s I remember Utility Stores in Islamabad were a good place for grocery. At that time there weren't many supermarkets of sorts in Pakistan where shoppers could pile up their buys in trolleys as almost all shops were the kind where you had to ask the guys and they'd bring it off a high shelf or some store. So Utility Stores were a good change. Cant recall anything abt price advantages back then, will have to ask folks. Later I remember hearing that USs all over Pakistan were almost abandoned and were shut down. Now they're back atleast for the past few yrs and the prices are subsidized and essentials are in good supply, not sure about various other goods. During Sugar crisis last year USs had best supply and best prices. With this budget it was announced the govt plans to enhance the USs and their functioning more and make it a better place for the public to shop with better supplies, more branches, better prices.
Hope it turns out that way, consumers need relief not just in prices, but in access to stores with better supplies and better access to them in every locality.
