**Utility of foreign cricket coaches in Asia questioned **
KARACHI: Pakistan’s former Test captain and wicket-keeper Rashid Latif launched a scathing attack on Tuesday on foreign coaches working with the Asian cricket teams after his former side, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh all flopped in the ICC Champions Trophy.
“The Champions Trophy results lead one to question the wisdom of paying so much money to these foreign coaches who have produced no dramatic results,” Rashid said on Tuesday. “The (Asian cricket) boards must ask themselves, ‘are these people delivering results expected from them’?”
Former England player Bob Woolmer has coached Pakistan since 2004 while India hired ex-Australia captain Greg Chappell last year. Dav Whatmore is in charge of Bangladesh while fellow Australian Tom Moody is the coach of Sri Lanka.
Rashid stated that all the foreign coaches apart from Whatmore, who lifted the fortunes of Sri Lanka when he was in charge of that nation, had failed to live up to expectations. “Even Whatmore has struggled with Bangladesh, confirming the fact a coach is only as good as his team,” said Rashid. “You look at the results of all these teams. There is no improvement from when they had local coaches. Locals are being deprived of an opportunity to work with their national teams.”
Rashid, a highly agile keeper of his era, feared the Asian teams would struggle in next year’s World Cup in the Caribbean.
“Pakistan, Indian and Sri Lankan players are naturally talented,” he noted. “They play cricket by instinct and are more accustomed to respecting their captain than a coach. Their psyche cannot change.”

The statement highlighted in bold may be true of Pakistam than. The Pakistan super stars may listen and respect the clever Inzi more than uncle Bob.
If it’s true that players have more respect for the captain than imagine Pakistan team without a coach and the clever Inzi having to do everything for the team i.e. coaching and leading the side which includes batting & bowling coaching, fielding drills (which he doesn’t apprently do or doesn’t partcipate with enthusim), planning, analysing the opposition etc and of course doing the Tableegh at the same time.
Would they do any better during the World cup without a coach (foreign or desi) and someone like the clever Inzi leading the side?
