I’m planning on taking American Express Traveller’s Cheques with me to Pakistan. Is it a big hassle to get these cashed? Do most banks accept these? I’m trying to get around carrying a load of cash with me if anyone has any experience with this i’d really like to hear about it. Thanks.
Re: Using Traveller's Cheques in Pakistan
It is a big hassle. None of the banks or money changer etc. accept it. The only way to cash them in Pakistan is to deposit them in a bank account and wait for two weeks to clear them or go to American Express branch in Karachi alongwith your passport, stand in line and cash them. In the end, you end up with the same problem, i.e., a bunch of cash in hand. You will be better off using credit cards as much as you can and/or transferring money directly into a Pakistani account ahead of time.
or transferring money directly into a Pakistani account ahead of time.
i woud suggest the same , and it's safe too , hence mostly people (i knew) opt for this
Re: Using Traveller's Cheques in Pakistan
A big No No to Amex Travelers cheques in Pakistan. Either transfer cash to Pakistani account or if you have an ATM card you can use any Pakistani ATM to get cash. otherwise, bring $'s and get it cashed as per your need.
