Her eldest child, the son of footballer Dwight Yorke, was born with autism, a rare condition which affects his growth and septo-optic dysplasia, which has left him with restricted sight.

Actually she may be a better mother than most are giving her credit for. If her son has limited sight, then having this raised and textured hairstyle allows him to “see” his hair with his hands. The tactile enjoyment of his hair may be his way of enjoying/experiencing his hair - that actually shows me she understands her son’s physical limitations and made a decision to help him experience more.
