Using different shades of foundation

There was a thread where I think stoppit said she was using NC20-25 but also NC 35 in Mac full coverage foundation. I didn’t understand how different shades of foundation can be used on the face. I tried to find the thread where this was discussed but would anybody be able to let me know the reason for doing that and the advantages? What that technique called…

Some people get tanner in the summer hence the need for a foundation shade that may be darker or she can use it for contouring.

post # 51…Just because the foundation tends to oxidize is the lighter shade used? Is that why the lighter shades are also used.

Re: Using different shades of foundation

I'm on my phone and hate typing on here so ill just briefly say that I've only ever used NC35 in FC and MAC full coverage is one of the few MAC foundations that doesn't oxidise.

I use a lighter shade of select sheer powder bcoz it oxidises like hell.

Re: Using different shades of foundation

^I would really like to be good at applying makeup and knowing what's the best technique for my face skin since i'm still learning all the tricks. I must have watched so many makeup videos by makeup artists like gossmakeupartist and others. I'm NC35 as well in mac full coverage(it was named something different at belk mac counter). Thanks stoppit for explaining it.

Re: Using different shades of foundation

Use an exact match (foundation) for your entire face and neck, the lighter foundation (or concealer) can be used for highlighting (the "high" points of your face) and the darker foundation should be used for contouring. If your color is inbetween 2 colors, this is when you mix foundations to get a close match!

Re: Using different shades of foundation

Since it was called something else, I’m fairly certain it’s not the foundation named ‘MAC full coverage’. This is a pro product only available at pro stores. I compiled a list of pro stores here:
http://www.paklinks.com/gs/fashion-and-beauty/409546-list-of-mac-pro-stores-carrying-pro-range.html#post7242941
They probably gave you a foundation which gives a fuller coverage from the normal range.

You want whatever shade best matches your skin tone. If you are going to set it with MAC Studio Fix powder as gossmua does, use your matching shade in that.

You only use two (or three) different shades of foundation when you want to achieve a contoured look but subtle everyday contouring can be achieved with powders and highlighter pens.

The first step is to get a good base and figure out what application technique works best for you. I think I mention what I do for MAC full coverage in the thread linked in an above post.

Re: Using different shades of foundation

I've just seen it's available to buy online from MAC US, which it wasn't a few years back.
