Useless Degree

Don't listen to the mdeical crowd. Theya re just pissed because they won;t have any cash until they are 35 plus have loans up the wazoo. Give them a couple of bucks and tell them to stfu. Plus since their field is getting more and more regulated, poor guys will be making less than the docs int eh 80-90's.

^ dont stress :flower2:

i have a feeling something good may be coming up soon

It's not just parents or aunties, I recently got the rudest comment from guppy friend regarding people studying accounting,

[/QUOTE]

Some Canadian universities have quite a tough average just to get into an accounting program. Why's it so looked down upon?

^ sorry can;t resist.

Because it is CANADA. Canada is average. that's why the snickering.

it’s better than USA. You’re president could use some education himself.:snooty: I bet he bought his degree- if he even has one.

Munni since you already have that degree -can't you use that to maybe do a minor in something related to that. I would think it could become quite useful when combined with another degree that is maybe more narrowed down.

I have enough credits to hold two bachelors degree's(Mash'Allah), but with the variety of subjects I took, I couldnt get any other specific Major. I do have a Minor, but nobody really considers it during my job interviews.

Sahar, people are sometimes impressed by the actual major, but they tell me its too diverse of a subject for me to be hired and do well in the job they are offering. Not to mention the whole lack of experience thing. sigh

yaar it's all brainwashed stupidity.

My parents gave me hell for going to art school especially since I dropped out of med school to do so.

It wasn't til my brother who had the same major as me, computer animation, managed to not only triple his salary in 3 yrs and now makes more then my dad did they finally shut the hell up!

It's all about money. That's all they care about. If doctors didn't make so much money nobody would give a crap!

I spent the last few years working as a teacher and again I was made to feel worse then useless by my parents. For a while I was seriously considering just becoming a teacher instead. They thought I was crazy!?

Anyhows I finally got a job in a Visual FX company!! :)

It's wrong though .. some of the supposedly most educated people I've met are also the stupidest ignorant pricks I've ever known too.

When a person's worth is judged by how much they make or their degree that is just wrong.

An education does not guarantee intelligence.

any degree awarded from the pakistan colleges (those two year bachelors degrees) r useless no matter what major u r doing....

^^ Not if you're living in Pakistan. Now
try exporting it and I'm sure it becomes mash at that point.
In my opinion a degree should be more about doing something
a person likes and not how much it's worth. In todays' age
cashing it in has become a business literally. The person it is suppose
to help you become, shadows into the background somewhere, specially
these days. If you're going to be doing the same thing for the
rest of your life everyday, you better be loving every second of it
and that's where reality kicks in.

My parents supported me when I chose my major (History) and did not once discourage me. My siblings also got degree in humanities/liberal arts.

When I was in Pakistan, people would ask me what I studied and I told them. One uncle gave me a lecture saying how I got a degree in a useless subject cause it won't get me any money. I should have studied business, medicine, engineering, etc. Who studies history?

I also got the same speech from a few aunties. If not a speech, then they would get a look of confusion on their faces when I told them what I got my degree in. I'm sure they thought to themselves, "who in their right mind studies history?"

Just imagine the looks I got from people when I was studying German at university! :D

I have no regrets. Actually, I wish I majored in English instead. Oh well. :)

I agree with the above posts that say people in our community don't really appreciate liberal studies. Medicine, math, engineering, etc. will always be valued more. A lot of it has to do with social status, wealth, etc.

i feel much better now. stupid uncles and their lectures.

^ Suroor, when I was an undergrad one of my mother's cousins asked me what I wanted to do. I was still uncertain but I said, I'd like to be an English major and perhaps get a PhD. He was like, "You can't get a PhD in English."

I disagreed with him for a while, but he insisted. Then I left the dinner table because I was afraid I was going to be rude. :p

Sur u got lectures for wht YOU are studying?

Real weird. :konfused:

^ yea go figure :-/

i was this close to shut him up..lekin mom was giving me the “dont u dare say anything” wali look.

A lot of desi med students turn out to be pompous jerks and lets not even get started on their parents who think they become MD's as well.

There are exceptions to what you say Belle, but I don't know where they are hiding.:)
