The Federal Board of Revenue has decided to reduce sales tax from 17 to 5 percent on the import and local supply of old and used clothes. Sources told *Business Recorder *here on Wednesday that the FBR will issue a notification to reduce the rate of sales tax on old and used clothes. After vetting from Law and Justice Division, a statuary regulatory order would be issued.
At present, a large number of consignments of old and used clothes are stuck up at ports due to imposition of the standard rate of 17 percent sales tax. This also resulted in imposition of demurrages on the imported consignments at ports. After issuance of notification, the imports would be able to clear their consignments at a lower rate of 5 percent at the import stage.
