Used Cars

What is a good place to buy used cars??? I was thinking the honda dealers near our house have a lot of used cars…do u think that it is a good idea to buy from there??? Any suggestions?

Re: Used Cars

Are you from Pakistan?

Re: Used Cars

america

Re: Used Cars

Well I dont know your dealer because I have never bought a car there :D
but it is best to buy a car from the dealer for warranty and such

Re: Used Cars

What he said. Look at the mags that you can get for free in the supermarkets and depaneurs. Also bring a long a buddy who knows about cars before looking at anything.

Re: Used Cars

I would recommend new cars as though you can get good used cars, it is still a used car and it ends up swallowing your money.

I can say from experience :hehe:

Anyway, do you have a certain preference for a car?

Re: Used Cars

actually cost of ownership for a late mode used car is less than that of a new car because you dont get hit with the depreciation of the first 3 years.

but then that depends whether the used car that you buy is a reliable brand like honda or something like a chrysler.

Re: Used Cars

^ I have a honda accord and believe me, that car sucks money.

I think it must be the optimum age of the car. I think 3-4 year used car should be ok?

Re: Used Cars

Accord's are awesome cars - rarely does an accord give u any engine or tranny issues. I would definately suggest going for a Honda Accord - but try and go for a 2003 and Up model, because thats when the shape changed - so its going to hold more value when you try and sell it down the road.

Re: Used Cars

^ I don't know for the newer accord that much but i have a pre-2003 model and that has that special brakes in the front that require more $$$. The real older ones had that rust problem in the back as well [the 1992esque accord shape] but I think that has been solved now.

Re: Used Cars

well it could be how the car was maintained in general by previous owners. if you go for a car that is 3-4 years old, and have it for 4-5 years you should not have a problem. Below are some cars that I have had personal experience with. all were bought a few years old and sold after using a few years

85 corolla bought in 87, sold in 91- no problems
87 celica bought in 1991, sold in 1995- no problems
90 nissan 240sx bought in 1995, sold in 1998 no problems
90 celica bought in 1997, sold in 1999 no problems
99 montero bought in 2001, sold in 2006, no issues.

Re: Used Cars

Yea mine is definitely older than 3-4 years old. I am a third owner [bought from a private party] with the car originally as a lease car. A lot of the stuff like serpentine belt * and the timing belt / water pump were changed by honda as I didn't find the receipt with the old owner. I think the honda certified cars are better for a novice than buying from a private party which of course is less costlier.*

Re: Used Cars

shriek

its a good idea to check a car's hisotry on autocheck and carfax etc, and pay $50 to a mechanic to inspect the car. could save you hundreds or thousands later.

Re: Used Cars

I did the title check. There were no accidents and stuff reported in there.

I think the car generally [at least mine] does have an acceleration problem. I think that is true for the 97-98 Accords. My brother’s CR-V was in a small accidents and his car now requires an extra 1,000 rpms to accelerate. He rented the new corolla and he like it compared to his honda. He is thinking about getting a new car [non-honda] and he is the person who was the most pro-honda in our house :hehe:

Re: Used Cars

there is this website where u can check out used cars...and they use carfax as their source of info that the car is in good shape....is that a trustable source??? Also which car has the best sell back? Or is it most cars? How well do american cars sell back?

Re: Used Cars

The dealer

Dont never ever buy from a private party, unless you are doing every thing right, eg. knowing the person, having the car checked by an honest John etc.

I wont mind paying a few hundred bucks more and getting the peace of mind rather than save a few dollars and then trying to chase the guy / gal down who sold me the piece of junk

Re: Used Cars

^^ You do know dealers sell the leased "abused" cars.. :p :D

Re: Used Cars

look it up for your location on net. or take a peak in local advertiser.there are usually auctions for second hand cars but its best to bring along a mechanic who will take a look on your behlf so that you dont end up dead meat.best of luck
