Use "Masjid" or "Musalla" but not "Mosque"

The word “Mosque” was invented by Spanish Christians over five hundred years ago and means “Mosquito” in their language.

They boasted that they would stamp out every Masjid in Spain like swatting “mezquitas.”

Therefore. the term “Mosque” is offensive to
Muslims and we should try and use the word “masjid” or the word “mussalla” as it apperas in the Qur’an.

I don't know about other facts but Musalla means the prayer mat. No?

Plz provide authentic literature url, ref.to sustantiate your assertion. We cant just accepting any explanation.I can say lot of things in islam & twist it for some neferious motives .Fore,e.g Some hindu have spread the gossip that kaba represent Shiv Lingham.Obviously they like you dont have any grounds for saying so & therefore both of you are in the same category untill you have proof or as in urdu "DALEEL"

In Pakistan "Musala" (a Punjabi word) means prayer mat like ja-e-namaz.

But in Wetern countries the place of worship is also called "Musala".

Mosque means recognized Masjid; and where there is no mosque in near abouts a room reerved for prayers is called "Musala".

"Musala" is opened for all 5 prayers but Namaz-e-Eid and other major religious activities are carried out only at "Masjid/Mosque" not "Musala".

What? my word not good enough for ye?

New Muslim Guid - Go down to Mosque

Check Part A. Where to Pray

People well versed with Muslim History in Spain might have more. Don’t expect a Spanish Christian’s Manual on if and why they did start that.

My job was to inform.

Thanks for sharing!

Quick question…you say mosque in Spanish is mosquito…so what are mezquitas???

Besides your lost in the semantics…when you get out of this self-made maze maybe you’ll get the spirit of Islam aswell as the endless, sometimes pointless, facts…

According to the Collins Gem Spanish Dictionary, the Spanish word for Mosquito is..
.
.
.
.
.
mosquito

A mosque in Spanish is mezquita

Having studied Spanish for 4 years, I can tell you that the word Masjid is extremely different from any normal Spanish sound - there is no "j" sound in Spanish. The letter "j" is pronounce like a soft English "y"

The nearest the Spanish language has to the arabic letter "jeem" is the "k" sound formed by the letters "qu".

So you have the Spanish calling it a Mazquid. Couple this with the need to assign a gender, in this case female, to the noun an "a" at the end.

This gives you Mazquida. Over time, this easily becomes Mezquita , to try and remove some of the harshness from the word (Spanish being a language that tries to avoid harsh sounds).

Mad scientist

So your point?

It's just a coincidence....forgive me for being obtuse but it is 1am in the morning here......spell this out to me in reference to Pakabroads orig conatations????

Well M_S Has a point there.
But so das PA. So who should we listen to?
Btw if decision has to be made by considering Spanish history (Muslim-Jewish invasion), I would rather trust in PA's version.
