USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

By USCENTCOM Public Affairs

MacDill AFB, Fla. (November 28, 2011) — The commander of U.S. Central Command, Gen. James N. Mattis, has directed an investigation into the incident near the Salala Checkpoint, Khas Kunar Province, Afghanistan, in the vicinity of the Pakistan border on Nov. 25, which inflicted casualties on Pakistan military personnel.

General Mattis has appointed Brig. Gen. Stephen Clark from Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla., as the Investigating Officer. The inquiry will be CENTCOM-led with the support, cooperation and involvement of a NATO element on the investigation team.

Additionally, the investigation team has been directed to include input and participation from the International Security Assistance Force. The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Government of Pakistan will be invited to participate. It is USCENTCOM’s intent to include these government representatives to the maximum extent possible to determine what happened and preclude it from happening again.

The investigation team will focus their efforts on the facts of the incident and any matters that facilitate a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries of the Pakistan forces.

General Mattis has directed the investigating officer to provide an initial report by December 23, 2011.

The appointment letter for the U.S. investigating officer is provided: http://www.centcom.mil/images/storie…_25_nov_11.pdf](http://www.centcom.mil/images/stories/stories/appointment_memo_af_pak_cross_border_incident_25_nov_11.pdf).

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

mark my words if they stay longer in Afghanistan ... pathans gonna sell carpets on drones.

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

^ lol

The results of the investigations every one knows so what's the dispute here. Raymond Davis killed two people in front of people and he was flown away and he did not face any punishment in united states. This is one incident in which Pakistan army is saying one thing and the afghans are saying another, who do you think the NATO people will believe? This is the third time the Americans have killed Pakistanis but never has any one been punished so we don't have any confidence in your investigations.

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

pathans selling carpet on drones :D

this reminds me a hillarious photo and video of qandahar air port when indian airlines plane was highjacked from nepal , the plane was surrounded by pathans then in the power and airport was being patrolled by some pathans on bicycle and some privileged one on battered toyota mini trucks .

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

We don't trust in your investigation because we know what the outcome is going to be. Time has come to act against your interest in the region just so Americans feel the defeat as the Russia got defeated. No matter how much pretty picture you like portray about partnership etc. the Nato attack on our soldiers made it clear that partners like Americans and ISAF aren't able to be worked together. It would be very interesting if Russia and Pakistan both block Nato supplies..it would quiet of a judgment day for your soldiers. Not to mention, unleashing Talibans on your puppet govt as well as your soldiers.

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

here one thing we should consider the fact that attack on pak army post is reported.
we all know that each helicopter is equipped with GPS system, so there is no point of misunderstanding.

another point is that if NATO cant distinguish well defined international border. what is actually happening in afghanistan. can they distinguish among good and bad people.

i believe it is hard.

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

Hey doesn't GS have some policy against posting threads without anything to discuss, especially when the OP is nowhere to be seen after posting a thread?

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

^^ Yes, but we have made exception in this case for time being b/c he is representative of the US govt & we'd like to hear what they have to say about the issues that have impact on Pak-US relationship.

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

I.e. This website is based in the states and they don't want issues with Homeland Security.

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

Thought that rules were uniform for everybody. Now GS too is discriminating in favour of US propaganda...:)

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

I guess this out of the way favor is hardly working to bring any positivity to Pakistani mind set with respect to American official statements.. if you just read the comments in the threads which are opened by them. The posts look more like communist style state propaganda.. and hardly answer any questions raised in these forums..

Any way it's ok to give them an opportunity to speak out.. if not for anything else.. but for the sake of freedom of speech which they claim to be the champions..

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

forum is Texas based…now GS wouldn’t want to be shut down would it?? :hehe:

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

We try to send our message across this forum, and it's always good to get the other side of the picture as well. This is freedom of speech!

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident

Then the Taliban should also be allowed to post such stuff here if that is the nature of freedom of speech.

Re: USCENTCOM directs investigation into Afghan-Pakistan border incident
