Re: USB flash drive???

How much data (in size) you want to transfer?

Best option is to buy an External drive. Though there are many other solutions too. Like transfering it on network (using network system at friend's house) or uploading the data to some server (Only if you trust them) or else.

Re: USB flash drive???

exactly what is an external drive? Can it be setup and work in safe mode? I am looking to get something that isn't too expensive.....cuz with a flash drive I wouldn't mind transfering data two or three times....I just don't want to use 50 disks to do it....thats why I thought of using a flash drive.

Re: USB flash drive???

the cheapest for you is an external Hard drive.

connects with USB. Excellent for backups.

Re: USB flash drive???

Flash drive is compact and handy. But I prefer External disk.

External drive is just a little bit big than a normal Hard drive in you PC due to its casing.I think so it works on saffe mode too though I am having one external Hard drive. though it isnt proper external har drive.... I have just set an internal hard drive into a casing and made it external.

I am sure it will not be much expensive. Though a little but it is much useful for future working.

Just the main draw back is it a little bulky than Flash disk.

Re: USB flash drive???

If you are thinking of portability of Data on the long run Flash disk or External USB Hard disk is OK each of them will be about 100US (2 GB flash or 40GB Disk)

But if you need to transfer data only once then the best is to get another hard disk (40 or 60 GB). In Pakistan you can buy it under 3000 Rs. and if you are outside you maybe able to get it free from a friend who upgraded his harddisk or has an old computer.

Use this Hard disk as Slave it will not only backup your data but will increase storage space.

Re: USB flash drive???

And then the fixing cost?? I hope you have read her post complatly as she want the data from her laptop to be backed up.

Re: USB flash drive???

Re: USB flash drive???

Aray steal 'em from work :halo:

Re: USB flash drive???

OOpps.....

The other option is to buy USB PCLinQ cable for $45 and transfer data from Laptop to Desktop.

Re: USB flash drive???

I got one from WalMart that has 80 or 60GB I hope it works...and if it does I will let u know.....thanks everyone for all ur help. The laptop to desktop cable....i was planning on buying it but my laptop works only in safe mode, cuz i think a program on it won't let it open regularly...so its better to leave all my laptop problems to my laptop. Thanks everyone for ur help.

Re: USB flash drive???

do y'all know of any gadgets tht convert an flash disk into an mp3 player...so that it plays all the mp3 u got on it but at the smae time u can save files n stuff and use it as a normal flash disk...
I have a 1GB SanDisk minicruzer so i was thinkin of gettin it sum joint 2 play my mp3s on it.

Re: USB flash drive???

Way back when I was rebuilding my PC and all these options weren't available, so what i did was zippped all my docs and sent myself an email on AOL. I think there were like 10 emails of 5 mb each (or was it 20 emails of 2 mb each?), and it took me 2 days to upload, then rebuild and then 2 days to download.

What a country!

Re: USB flash drive???

TB I was gonna do that....except for I have a webcam and love using it....so I have a ton of pics on my laptop....And I have an mp3 player so I downloaded mine and my sis cd's on my laptop......and I don't want to lose the songs so I thought I could find another way to save all my info than to upload all my info in my email. But that is a good way I usually tend to do that when I don't have a million things to save.

Re: USB flash drive???

What i was talking about early 90's, where the only file-types u needed backed up were wk*, txt and doc files. I guess there were some gif and jpgs around. Don't forget bmp and wav.

Re: USB flash drive???

why do you want to re-install winxp?? most probs can be sorted without this.
