Kerry, Bush clash over Iraq war

Kerry accused Bush of rushing to war
US Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and President George W Bush have used the traditional Labor Day holiday to step up their campaigning.

During a blitz tour of key battleground states, Mr Kerry said the president’s Iraq invasion was the “wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time”.

Mr Bush rebuked the criticism, saying his decision was “right for America”.

The heated exchange came after two polls gave Mr Bush an 11-point lead ahead of the November election.

Time magazine’s poll on Friday had Mr Bush ahead 52-41 while Saturday’s Newsweek poll had Mr Bush ahead by 54-43, both with a 4% error margin.

A Newsweek poll suggests Bush has taken the lead after his party’s convention

A rise in the opinion polls was expected after the high profile of the Republican Party’s convention in New York, analysts say.

The Kerry camp said the “Bush bounce” after the meeting would be temporary, but some senior Democrat leaders called for a change in his strategy.

They argue that Mr Kerry has concentrated too much on national security - where President Bush has strong ratings - and not the social issues that are traditional democratic strengths, the BBC’s Dan Griffiths in Washington says.

‘W for wrong choices’

At a campaign stop in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Mr Kerry told voters he would try to pull US troops out of Iraq within four years.

No matter how many times Senator Kerry changes his mind, it was right for America and it’s right for America now that Saddam Hussein is no longer in power

“We want those troops home, and my goal would be to try to get them home in my first term,” Mr Kerry said.

At a later campaign stop in Racine, West Virginia, he launched a stinging attack on Mr Bush’s record on a number of issues.

“It all comes down to one letter - W. George W. Bush. And the W stand for wrong,” the Massachusetts senator said.

“The W stands for wrong choices, wrong judgement, wrong priorities, wrong direction for our country.”

He also accused Mr Bush of rushing to war without a plan, calling the president’s coalition of allies in Iraq “the phoniest thing I ever heard”.

“It’s the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Mr Kerry said.

Under pressure from some Democrats to change the subject of his campaigning from national security, Mr Kerry also criticised Mr Bush’s record on the economy and other domestic issues.

Mr Kerry’s last stop on his Labor Day whirlwind tour was a picnic in Ohio - another battleground states where polls show the presidential race is virtually tied.

‘Right’ move

Rebuking the attack, Mr Bush said in a speech prepared for supporters in Missouri that Mr Kerry was a politician who could not decide what he thought and stuck to it.

Bush says Kerry keeps changing his position

“After voting for the war, but against funding it, after saying he would have voted for the war even knowing everything we know today, my opponent woke up this morning with new campaign advisers and yet another new position,” Mr Bush said in prepared remarks released by his camp.

“Suddenly he’s against it again. No matter how many times Senator Kerry changes his mind, it was right for America and it’s right for America now that Saddam Hussein is no longer in power.”

The US presidential election is to be hold on 2 November.

2004 Presidential Election in the U.S

IM JUST ENCOURAGING EVERYONE, IF U ARE VOTING FOR THE U.S PRESIDENT IN NOVEMBER, OR IF U KNOW SOMEONE VOTING, JUST SUPPORT JOHN KERRY AND WHERVER U LIVE, IN AMERICA, PAKISTAN, JUST SPREAD THE WORD FOR JOHN KERRY

We need to get rid of George W. Bush and kick him out of the White House, not only is he bad for America, he is bad for the whole world and especially for Muslims.

Bush's accomplishments in the past 4 years.

Everyone is complaining about how the campaign is not focused on real issues confronting Americans, but instead on who did what 30 years ago. So focusing on issues, let’s try to discuss the incumbent President. Though the discussion will to totally biased, lets try to keep it focused on policies/decisions made & their effect rather than getting personal.

So, will one of the supporters of Bush list down his accomplishments in any order?

Let me do the honor Bhaijan,

(1) Patriot
(2) Act
(3) Restitution of the sanctity of the 2nd Amendment
(4) Inattentiveness to the Medicare reform
(5) No taxation for rich population
(6) Unilateral thoka thaki
(7) Invented Withusism

Bhaijan, this is just a start, there are a lot more contributions of our President. He is a lot more contributoring than Kerry.

By keeping a close eye on Electoral Vote.com, John Kerry is clearly in a bad shape. The national polls, except for Rasmussen, seem to be trending towards Kerry, but the state polls are moving heavily towards Bush.

What is interesting to me is that Bush seems to have gotten a big bounce from the Swift Boat attacks on Kerry and the National Guard attacks on him. What is particularly interesting is how the Republicans have masterfully moved the whole discussion away from Bush’s character to Dan Rather’s character when Dan Rather is not the person up for re-election. And it is quite telling that many of the sources who claim the documents are forgeries are also saying that the allegations in the documents are on the mark. The Bush machine, like the Clinton machine, has effectively once again found a way to keep Bush from being accountable for anything.

Kerry’s biggest problem right now is that there are so few people who really like him a lot. And the relentless flip-flopping charges has effectively destroyed his credibility. Thus, it will take a miracle for him to win converts in a debate, because people won’t believe what he says. More and more I am becoming convinced that elections are nothing more than popularity contests. Issues, policies, results don’t matter. All that matters is having the personality that best fits the populace at the given time.

Kerry's real problem is that he's just a patsy who'll take the fall in the November Noora Kushti for Bush..

Any real anti-war candidate today can whup Bush's ass.. all Kerry has to do is come out against the Iraq war openly and declare a complete pull out if he wins.. but note that he doesn't.. all his policies are the same when it comes to incessant wars.

wel 9/11 for a start.. happened on his watch.. haven't seen a President so lame on National Defense before.. allowing the murder of thousands of American on our own soil..

Fire the Liar.

A good time to revive the thread! Let the Bush supporters make up a good list.

^ Forget the list, I think Bush supporters are still trying to come up with the first point.

oh come on....give me a break...we need be to un-biased...how come 911 has anything to do with President Bush’s incompetence......he was in office for only 8 months when this incidence happened. What about President Clinton who did not press hard on OBL during his presidency.…….

^ and what about the intelligence Bush got in PDB during his first 8 months regarding attacks and he totally ignored it. Isn’t that irresponsible?

Here’s a partial list of things that come immediately to mind.

  1. Has restored the responsibility for the security of our country to the White House where it belongs rather than in the UN.
  2. Wiped out a terrorist supporting government in Afghanistan;
  3. Wiped out the government of Saddam.
  4. Has moved the main actionable battleground in the war on terror overseas with us the aggressor rather than adopting policies that would require us to fight it at home as the defender.
  5. Got Libya to peaceably give up WMD programs and rejoin the community of nations;
  6. Restored credibility to the willingness of the US to use its military forces to protect its people and its interests;
  7. Gave American wage earners a big income tax cut.
  8. Steadied and restored the US economy in the face of an unprecedented convergence of negative events: inherited recession, inherited speculative stock market bubble, inherited corporate financial accounting crime, and 911.
  9. Restored a sense of moral dignity and clarity to the White House.
  10. Got the twins through college with no major personal catastrophes.

He deserves four more years to try to complete the work in progress and to solidify these accomplishments.

But PA, you believe that 9-11 was orchestrated by Mossad. If that's the case, how could any action(s) taken aginst OBL have prevented the attacks from happening?

Nice try but not going to convince any sane mind. Your number 6 is a joke. Talk about credibility, hahaha
