US to take action against Iran

What does covert actions entail? I believe it would be better to levy sanctions on Iran instead of carrying out strikes against its nuclear facilities.

WASHINGTON, Aug 8: White House national security adviser Condoleezza Rice on Sunday said the United States could not rule out taking covert action against Iran to disrupt its nuclear weapons programme.

“We will use many means to try to disrupt these programmes,” Rice told NBC television. “The president will look at all the tools that are available to us.”
“We are having diplomatic successes, but these are very tough problems,” Rice said. “For a long time… we were the only who ones who seemed to think that Iran really did have an aggressive programme to try to develop nuclear weapons,” she said.

“We are now getting stronger (International Atomic Energy Agency) action against them. We believe in September we will get a very strong statement out of the (IAEA) board that Iran will either be isolated or it will submit to the will of the international community.”

US Secretary of State Colin Powell said last month that it was “more and more likely” that Iran would be referred to the UN Security Council by the IAEA as a possible prelude to sanctions.

The United States has accused Iran of wantonly flouting international calls to curb its nuclear activities, saying Tehran is engaged in a “direct challenge” to the UN’s nuclear watchdog.

The European Union’s “big three” - Britain, France and Germany - have been pressing Iran to cease working on the nuclear fuel cycle in exchange for increased trade and cooperation and the guaranteed supply of nuclear fuel from abroad.

Such work is permitted under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, but fears persist that once fully mastered, a country possessing such technology can divert it into military usage.

Many diplomats believe that even if Iran is not working on nuclear weapons now, it would like to have the option in the future. Tehran, meanwhile, denies charges it is seeking to develop a nuclear bomb.

Iran has agreed to temporarily suspend enrichment pending the completion of an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) probe, but is working on other parts of the fuel cycle and has recently resumed making centrifuges used for enrichment. -APP

God bless the Israeli Airforce as it takes out these facilities. everone say Amen. :k:

It is no secret that Iran is one country that has stood up against US. Iraq is reduced to nothing, without backbone or teeth just to preserve American interests and secure Israeli freedon. Another country that Isreal feels threatened from is Iran and that is reason enough for US to carry out the pre-emptive strikes against its facilities. No doubt about that.

I think the point of covert actions is not to explain what they entail, hence "covert".

Publicly discussing covert action means "ratcheting up pressure", and mking a lot of paranoid Iranians. Covert actions means exploding an ebomb somewhere nearby, and frying every circuit in the underground bunker complex they use to create the bombs. Or, giving the thumbs up to the Israeli airforce....

Being a little pesky fly doesn't really mean standing up to US. Acting as a Tribal, Insane Neanderthal (TIN) cup will only hurt Iran with "zero" benefit to Iranians.

Mullah-Tullah Aya-Tullah cabal want to whip up anti-US feeling to a point where the only outcome is big bad spanking.

Iranians hate the fact that Pakistan got their nukes while Iran can just wave around some Shahabi Dil*o. They love to set up defense pacts with India thus challenging Pakistani interests in every possible way.

AQ terrorists and Aya-Tullahs are busy scheming against Pakistan. Pakistanis ought to be very careful dealing with the Mullah-Tullah snakes.

I used that metaphorically but then again as compared to many other states including us; Iran has shown resisitance rather than succumbing to pressure from the U.S., since it transformed into a theocaracy.
But then we also need to be careful when confronted with the question of opposing Iranian designs, because the aggression in Iraq has already set a dangerous precedent and if Iran is the next target , then we really need to play our cards well.

Your a wind-up merchant and nothing more.

Pakistanis should be grateful to the US (or Israel) if they take out the Iranian nuclear capabilities. If Iran ever makes nuclear weapons, it will Pakistan that will be in the firing line - not Israel or USA.

Why would Iran want to nuke Pakistan?

Because it's there.

Thats like the answer the aliens gave in the movie "Independence Day" (paraphrasing)

President Whitmore: Why do we have to fight each other? What have we done to you?
Captured Alien: You breath.
President Whitmore: What do you want us to do?
Captured Alien: Die. Die.

You know I think the only reason you post around here is to satisfy your strange craving for the using the words Aya Mullah Tullahs.

PS. It's not funny.

Gupta has a point Faisal. Iran and Pakistan are competing for the same CIS resources. Struggle in Afghanistan clearly showed that Pakistan and Iran are poles apart.

Pakistani elite hasn't recognized the ongoing cold war between Iran and Pakistan from 1980. Iran actively funded anti-Pakistan Shia organizations in Pakistan. Shia-Sunni issues became much more militant in Karachi and Quetta after Iranian revolution.

For Pakistan it would have been impossible to fight communists, Aya-Tullah Mullahs, and Hindi Bharatis at the same time. Luckily for Pakistan, Iraq diverted Tullah-Mullahs long enough that commie menace was kicked out of Afghanistan.

Pakistani think tanks need to account for Mullah-Tullah dangers and prepare Pak policies with Iran as a clear danger to Pakistan.

Pakistan needs to be saved from the savage Aya-Tullah-Mullahs.

14th August congrats to brave Pakistanis.

Long live Pakistan and Pak-army.

I am not sure what you mean here?

Pakistan has nothing to worry if some fools or sand-chickens are being spanked right now. Unless you count Pakistan among the fools and sand-chickens!

You're getting warmer...

watch out sharon & Bush…dont consider iran another iraq…if you dare to attack its nuclear facilities, it can bounce back by launching a misslile attack at israel…in my opinion, if israel dares to attack iran’s nuclear facilities first, and mind you emphasis is on word “first”, iran should retaliate by launching a full misslile attack on israel ( I am assuming that iran has missile technology and that israel wont be able to block those missile attacks)…who has given israel the authority ( who else but uncle sam) to call other’s nuclear program “suspicious” and keep declaring its own nuclear program peaceful and for defence purposes only…

The Guardian

An Iranian military chief said yesterday that Israel and the US would not dare to attack his country since it could strike back anywhere in Israel with its latest missiles, a news agency reported.

“The entire Zionist territory, including its nuclear facilities and atomic arsenal, are currently within range of Iran’s advanced missiles,” the Isna students news agency quoted Yadollah Javani, the head of the Revolutionary Guards political bureau, as saying. “Therefore, neither the Zionist regime nor America will carry out its threats” against Iran, he said.

Officials have highlighted Iran’s military capabilities in recent weeks in response to some media reports that Israel or the US could try to destroy its nuclear facilities.

Last week Iran said it had successfully tested an upgraded version of its Shahab-3 ballistic missile. Military experts said the unmodified Shahab-3 was capable of striking Israel or US bases in the Gulf.

America and Israel have accused Iran of developing nuclear weapons, a charge it denies. Defence experts say air strikes are unlikely to disable Tehran’s nuclear capability.

:disgust:

iran has always been a strong Muslim voice and a thorn in their path

all this seems to be part of a larger plan

with all the stuff mush [america’s pithu] has been saying recently about foreign terrorists taking shelter in pak, and recently he issued a statement that they r escaping to the cities

soon, they’ll do something and then they’ll say terrorists who r hiding in pak and iran are behing the incident

and then they’ll get an excuse to target iran and pak just like they destroyed afghanistan and iraq

this time though, we shud not jus sit and watch it happen…

LOL :hehe:

this is funny stuff :hehe:

the evil schemers [Indians, Israelis] first incite sectarian violence in Pak against Shias to turn Iran against Pak. and then they float ideas that Iran is gona NUKE pak :hehe:

India should get this straight that Pak and Iran are Muslim countries and our relations may go a bit down sometimes but never THAT sour buddy, Iran can never nuke Pak and Pak can never nuke Iran.

Iran does not recognize Israel’s right to exist and actively supports terrorist attacks against her. Given the choice of non-nuclear missile attacks by Iran vs. a nuclear hit by Iran or an organization it supports it is probably that Israel will opt with the first non-nuclear choice. The missiles launched would certainly test Israel’s Arrow II anti-missile system out, one which has been successful thus far in it’s tests.
