US terror suspect tied to Pakistani Islamists

Many Pakistanis complain about occasional US strikes against terrorists in Pakistan. Well, if a terrorist attack is successfully conducted on US soil and originated from Pakistan you can forget about the US’s current policy of deference to the Pakistani government on such matters. It will be all out war, meaning regular air strikes and ground troops sent to destroy these camps.

This is the first time a plot against the US has been tied to terrorist camps in Pakistan. This is an ominous development, both for the US and Pakistan and the world (the fact that terrorists again have havens where they can train international terrorists). Hopefully the Pakistani government crushes these thugs, who flout Pakistani sovereignty by plotting against, among other things, the Pakistani government while on Pakistani soil.

So he went overseas to take a bomb-making course but was not planning any bombings. Does he think anyone is dumb enough to believe that?

Re: US terror suspect tied to Pakistani Islamists

HAs he said where in Pakistan these terrorist camps are?Why wouldn't they just find the location and destroy such camps? If Pakistan government finds it difficult due to past or present links, may be they can request USA / NATO to send in UAV drones

Presumably he has but the location has not been reported yet in the media.

I think the reason the US has not destroyed the camps is because of its deference to Pakistan's government and the fears it has over the public backlash that would come if the US took heavy action. Look at all the complaining when the US does a single drone strike. Imagine the complaining if the US decided to eliminate all terrorist camps. The perverse thing is Pakistanis should be jumping with joy if the US eliminated the enemies in their midst yet many Pakistanis, perhaps even a majority, remain oddly loyal to terrorists. How many terrorist attacks will it take in Pakistan before the Pakistani public demands that the government take control of its territory and crush the enemies of Pakistan and civilization?

Re: US terror suspect tied to Pakistani Islamists

Pakistanis just simply like to pretend to be the victims. Pakistanis in the UK cry about a mosque being attacked yet look the other way when Muslim mobs attack churches in Pakistan on a regular basis.

Breaking news: two more terrorist plots disrupted in the US

One involved a white person who converted to radical Islam while in prison (guess which Arab country probably supplied the imam who led to that?) and attempted to blow up a courthouse and the other involved a Jordanian in Dallas.

It is not simple as that. These terrorists do not have a regular training academy. They shift places and the trainees would not know the exact location of the training camp. The area is mountainous and to pinpoint the location would be difficult. There is already enough resentment against the US drone strikes and an attack at a wrong location would be a PR disaster. Hence the US govt has to take necessary precautions so as to not antagonise the locals.

Yes, right now but if there is an attack on the US--and with 3 attempted attacks stopped in the past week alone there is a sadly decent chance one will occur--the gloves will come off, especially if the attack was tied to Pakistani Islamists. It is obvious the Pakistani government, which likes to talk about sovereignty, does not care about exercising its sovereignty. Several countries have faced the threat of internal terrorism and crushed it: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Russia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, to name a few. At some point they suffered several attacks in the past decade. When is the last time you heard of an attack in these countries? It is because they hunted down the terrorists in their midst. Pakistan, in contrast, allows them to run terrorist bases and roam freely in part of its territory. Pakistan has the ability but not the will to destroy its internal terrorist threat. If the US is attacked, the US will step in to finish the job that Pakistan has shown it is unwilling to do, largely because of domestic political support for Islamists, over the past 8 years. In order to crush them you have to attack them regularly and send ground troops...
