as far as being a big shot, sure, it does not mean you will be a big shot, but it gives you a better chance of being a big shot.

as far as latex gloves in airports, security situation for green passport holders aint much better in Europe...or for that matter middle east.

well lets just say one of the most important employees that chip company in santa barbra get fingerd for special treatment of lube on every visit in and out of good old USA. Reason being of a Pakistani background from the UK. Must spend 2 days out of his working week either in states or somewhere else in the world making investments. Yet still get fingered.

I want USA passport holders to get the same treatment when landing at Heathrow or anywhere else. I have seen them land in their private jet's and just walk straight out with minimal hassle.

USA wanted to discrimate Britians of Pakistani heritage. Didnt go down to well with UK gov, otherwise racists policies would have been implemented.

senior govt officials of india got special treatment by US so that is not saying much.

as far as heathrow goes, british authorities have had their fair share of issues way way back even, trying to prevent illegal immigration as well as smuggling.

so u have given one con for someone not studying in US i.e. racial profiling at airports.

for some it will cancel out the superior education and opportunities available, for others it will not. After all even after racist attitudes of arabs or brits many pakistanis chose to go and built careers there.

that no relevance to this topic. EVERY country will try best to stop smuggling unless Columbia or some other narcotic state.

Brits are a total different story. First people from the commonwealth where invited, and when here many of the older generation where VERY welcoming.

well the relevance to the topic was kinda shot when it went on the tangent of why soemone would want to go to US.

I showed that by sheer quality of university education and the innovation here that it is a place to be.

As far as UK, I am very well aware of British immigration policies, and approaches. not only that I am very well aware of the skinheads especially in the 70's. as well as the welcoming attitudes of the National Front. And this is before any sort of terrorist attacks. Now had I not been a British Asian myself, and my father had not been living in Uk since the late 50's those details may have escaped me, but Pakistanis came to UK for education and for work even with that sort of "Paki go home" mentality being thrown around as well as institutionalized discrimination in areas like police and govt services.

I dont see any issue with someone willing to put up with some crap in US now to get the best they can get.

Dear risc,

Exageration has its limits ... unfortunately you don't have any. Your cetegorization of US, especially airport security is blown out of proportion.

I can tell you this much, USA is a land of opportunity and Pakistan or anyother country including UK, cannot even come close. If I was in Pakistan, I would not have gotten anywhere close to where I am today. Back in Pakistan, my family had no connection or money and those are the two primary mechanism for upward mobility in Pakistan.

I am happy to put up with security and the hassles for my own safety. BTW, I was strip searched and had to stand in a xray machine butt naked at Amsterdam airport not too long ago. Having US passport does not give you a free ride. These days, all you need is a Muslim name to get on the selected list :(

people put up with crap everywhere, pakistanis put up with crap in middle east for opportunity, pathans put up with crap in Karachi for opportunity, chinese put up with crap to work in Japan, such is life.

You have to balance the opportunity with the sacrifice. It has been done throughout history.

Now whether my master would be happy. I am sure that my master, Allah, has no issues with me trying to better my life. Maybe your master on the other hand would have an issue.

good for you and your family though, but different paths for different people. Goign back to the thread topic we are talkign about comign to US as a student, whether someone stays or goes is a different thing, but if this means they get the best education taht they can get, then thats their choie, they can go back to some utopia where no one ever gets harassed for anything to build a career later

yaaar, some peopel have done wonders for themselves withoug an education, and without steppign out of their cities/countries. Some have to do so.

I dunno maybe I am just used to crap that I saw in Uk, in saudi in pakistan and in US. maybe if i saw a palce where ppl did not get crap for their race, religion, ethnicity etc, then I would have a different take on it.

I am nto sayign taking crap is fine, I am saying when you make choices in life soemtimes you have to give some on one place to get some in a different aspect.

There is no statement of 'only in america' but that there are better opportunites in US. this I showed by innovation index and university rankings. Is that the only way? no, does it mean that soemone who goes to IBA will be less successful than soemone who goes to Kellogg or Wharton, no.

its just a question of better probability, and if someone is willing to sacrifice something to get better odds, why not.

I know desis who lived their entire lives building a future for their kids, slaving away in middle east where the policies did not allow them to bring their families over at all, or for years. big sacrifice, but they did it to improve the odds for their family and their kids. Could they ahve stayed in pakistan and done as well, definitely, but less likely. Thats all that I am saying

Hay Don't worry about Financial things

Apply at "Mum.edu" they finance you 100% once you get enter in USA you can transfer whatever university you want - Anyways this university is good too though......

Currently I'm student of Northwestern University, IL last year university according to university statistics university issued 41 F1 to India all 41 reached here same thing at university of Chicago(UIC) issued 97 f1 to India and 11 to Pakistan out of 11 just 2 candidates made it through counselor service and guess what all 97 indians made it. I don't know what's wrong going on our government should think about this beside dirty politics..........

I’m advising to all get more as you can get score in GRE if your score will be good you have no need to spend single penny and try to apply in master's cources.

My understanding is those states are less intrusive and more decent in terms of giving student visas for appicaple candidates.
