US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq

US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq Saturday 01 Saffar 1426

The family members of a slain US soldier of Pakistani origin are being given a run around by the authorities and said US government just doesn’t care. Family wants his body be sent to Karachi for burial, media report said on Saturday.

Azhar Ali, 27, a specialist - a junior American military rank - was killed in Baghdad Wednesday, along with a fellow soldier of Myanmar origin, when a roadside bomb destroyed the vehicle in which they were patrolling the troubled highway that runs between the airport and the Green Zone, a fortified area of government buildings.

Zulfiqar Ali, soldier’s brother: I am proud of my brother for what he did for America, and now I tell the American people, I need help, to do something for my brother and for us.

Ali’s brother, Zulfiqar Ali, 33, said the family wanted Specialist Ali’s body sent to Pakistan for burial there. The family says Ali’s remains are now in Delaware, at the Air Forces base. So that means the only holdup is in getting the family back from Pakistan to the US for the funeral. Reportedly now, Senator Hilary Clinton is involved, to try and move it all along.

Re: US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq

No, in the USA they have a scheme where foreign nationals who have immigrated to the USA can gain citizenship through military service.

Re: US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq

Re: US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq

No you are wrong…quite a few hispanics who were resident aliens have died in Iraq and were granted citizenship posthumously…

My brother was in the Army for seven years and was not a citizen until the latter part of his military career…

Re: US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq

A brave man has passed. His opinion of the politics were his own so I won't question them here. Let the family chose his resting place.

On citizenship:
All men in America over the age of 18 must register with the Selective Service, native or immigrant. This is a registry so that the government can identify people with special skills and try to recruit those people into the military (it used to be used for the draft). If you speak Urdu, Arabic or any such language odds are they'll want to recruit you. They can't force you, of course, but they damn sure will try to convince you.
A person entering America as an immigrant can join the military just like anyone else. The only restrictions are in areas that require access to classified information. If you do join the military you and your family will become citizens faster than the normal route. Should you die in service before earning your papers, they will grant you posthumous citizenship and also offer your family immediate citizenship if they choose to stay in America.

Re: US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq

Don’t know about his bravery, but he must be rotting in hell for his crimes against humanity

Re: US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq

Ofcourse they dont give you citizenship right away. first GC and after certain period citizenship. I was offered GC in three weeks.
Again rules might be different for different nationals.

Re: US soldier of Pakistani origin Killed in Iraq

I've been in this country 10 years without a green card. Maybe I should join the army.
