The crux of my post is about the distasteful credit theft by the US and CENTCOM of that soldier who acted on his own behalf. I am satisfied with his humanity indeed I am ... but if CENTCOM or US want my satisfaction - then they will get it when they get packing and go home ...
Peace psyah.
I understand your point, and agree with most of what your saying.
If we ask ourselves the question: "What would US military policy be regarding putting yourself at risk to save a civilian of the opposition?"
With the money invested in the soldier, training him, kitting him, sending him and expecting a return on that investment - it is not considered "value for money" for a soldier to risk his life in acts of humanity ...
This is why the US have no claim to his heroism - he broke their soldier code to save that girl ... he risked his life to save a girl ... that cost the US money not forgetting the excuses they will have to make to his family ...
I mean did we even ask ourselves why the US vehicle did not stop and move when the people were safe? It is because they had orders to continue moving ... It is not wise for a military vehicle to stop - they are instructed to keep moving lest they should get ambushed ... the driver probably had enough time to save his buddy, but he was most likely just following orders ... "don't stop ... carry on going" ...
Indeed that soldier who died acted like a pious human would act like - putting oneself to harms way to protect another is what is one of the definitions of "jihad".
Funny how we are expected to praise a few so called good men and show our gratitude towards illegal occupiers fighting illegal wars, yet when tens of muslims risk their lives to save non muslims and even in world wars 1 & 2, their heroism and contribution is conveniently brushed under the carpet or belittled... hypocrisy at its best!
No offense Mr/Mrs/Ms/Miss Centcom, but people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones and then expect a warm welcome in return.
I am not sure if I call this happening ‘GOOD’. Waste of a life of a good human is always a tragedy. I am sad for that american soldier as I am sure that he also had family, maybe wife and kids, who were waiting for him back home.
