US racist towards Muslims Arabs!

Almost 60% of Arab Muslims living in the US fear for the future of their families, according to a new report.
Almost a quarter of those asked said a family member had been insulted because of their race or religion.

Researchers questioned more than 1,500 people in the Detroit area over a six-month period, examining attitudes to Arab Americans since 11 September 2001.

They found 49% of the general population would support the increased surveillance of Arab Americans.

The conclusions bear out what several Arab and Muslim groups have been saying since the 9/11 attacks.

According to the report’s authors, Arab Americans are not cowering in their homes, but they do feel more scared than they did three years ago.

Their feeling of vulnerability is made worse because they believe that some Americans do not respect their religion.

Yet - surprisingly, perhaps - just like the population as a whole, they are willing to trade part of their civil liberties if it stops terrorism.

Even so, over 40% of the general population would support the detention of Arabs and Muslims without the evidence to prosecute them.
US arabs fear for there lives

Land of the brave and the free yeah right. More like land of the racists and muslim bashers!

"According to the report's authors"

Who the hell are the reports authors? This is piss poor reporting if there ever was a case.

UTD you are posting comments using vulgar language dismissing these incidents and rubbishing the report is it simply a case of the Truth hurts, are you saying these people are lying!

What would you say when jews are abused in the US, the word hypocrisy springs to mind!

The tone is so thoughtful and mature. So eloquently argued. Damn, boy!
You've won me over.

^No problem

Now try to address the issue at hand.

ak, my point is a valid one, posting a report by unknow authors is worthless. I'd like to see how the questions were written or asked.

More to the point, I wish a similar survey had been done before 9/11. I would guess that there has been no baseline study done. However just for arguement sake, let's assume that Arabs/Muslims living in the US experienced very few problems.

If that were the case you could argue that 9/11 has done more to HARM Arabs/Muslims, and to tarnish a religion! The fundamentalists are heaping shame on their religion and their people, and measurable making life worse, not better. People are human, and not without flaws. To imagine that the hate spewed by Islamic radicals would not have some blowback effects is just pure stupid. Get rid of the violent Jihadis, turn against them, and the world will be a better place.

Yeah riiight! As if!

I was surprised to read this article, Ive seen alot of Arabs in Detroit (and adjoining areas, such as Dearborn, where the survey was carried out), and they are in influential positions, and have established themselves. Most of them had raised children that were born in the US, and are doing really well, and have integrated with the society very well.

Exactly Spock and that why I question this survey.

For example the stat that states " over 40% of the general population would support the detention of Arabs and Muslims without the evidence to prosecute them.” I’m betting that the question was something like "Do you support the U.S. use of Guantanamo Bay as a holding place for those captured in Afghanistan" rather than "Do you support the detention of Arabs and Muslims without the evidence to prosecute them” How you ask the questions and then how you rewrite the results can make things seem more sinister that they are.

The general population is significantly more willing to target Arabs and/or Muslims for surveillance, random stops and searches, and detention without sufficient evidence to prosecute.

73% believe American news sources are biased against Arabs and Muslims.

Muslims in particular worry about their future in the U.S. and believe their religion is not respected.

Over a quarter say they or someone in their family were verbally harassed during the last two years.

What rosy picture this is for muslims living in amerikka NOT! :nono:

yeah minorities are really really oppressed in America and arabs and muslims..even worse there is a genocide going on in all over america...e.g. there are shooting in mosques by unknown Govt supported and protected groups who kill dozens of worshipers every week..and then we have mobs on the streets ...thousands of people looking for arabs and muslims to lynch. It is really sad situation...can you beleive they can't even preach their religion here....forget preaching they can't bring their religious book into this land and can't even built their places or worship...they can only repair the existing ones. really terrible thing going on.

Researchers at the University of Michigan questioned more than 1,500 people in the Detroit area over a six-month period.

While there are a lot of generalizations here, the fact remains that racial profiling has been an accepted practice of the law enforcement in the US through the years.

This is all fine, but what about the situation of Muslims in Pakistan, where we have to be searched to enter a mosque, to protect us from anyone who would want to carry a bomb inside. Isn’t that sad, in a Muslim country to be killed by other Muslims. The situation is still safer in America.
