A US Muslim who was kicked in the head by police officers and repeatedly struck while lying defenceless on the ground has told a press conference that he intends to sue his attackers.
According to the complaint filed Wednesday with the United States District Court - Eastern District of Michigan, a member of the Waterford Township Police Department’s Special Operations Unit approached the plaintiff, an African-American motorist on June 20, 2002, pulled out a gun and kicked him with such force that his head hit the ground.
The officer then asked him, “Are you Arabic?” The plaintiff, who is Muslim and Arab, answered “yes.” The officer then allegedly kicked him repeatedly while he was lying on the ground. During the one-hour ordeal, the officer allegedly put his gun to the plaintiff’s temple.
Two relatives of the plaintiff, who wishes to remain anonymous, also say they were mistreated during the incident and are included in the lawsuit. All three plaintiffs were subsequently released without charge or arrest.
Some criminals do wear police department uniforms and have done so for a very long time. We still have laws and standards to protect the innocent. These do not prevent this behavior in this society or yours or in the Muslim world. Any cop outside the bounds of accepted behavior must be brought to justice. He does not act in a manner that lends respect to the uniform he wears if this is true. A policeman takes an oath when he completes his training that includes a mindset and course of action. They are intended to be more than words.
If that Michigan link is true, CAIR has picked it up.
Its a good thing there are checks on these officers. If someone misuses the law (or authority) they should be held responsible for their deeds. That is atleast one good thing here.
I am sure the truth will come out, once this thing goes thru investigation.
Sounds like trying to win the lawsuit by trial in newspapers.
What's the bet that this crying wolf is going to lead to a bad rep. for all concerned. CAIR has as yet not filed a complaint. They would not give out information why not. Standard HT technique: try using emotionalism to gain support and suppress any independent intelligence. As far as I am concerned, HT's credibility is so low that I doubt it can get any lower. But I am sure they will surprise everyone!

Waterford Twp.—This release is in response to a September 19, 2002 article written by Niraj Warikoo of the
Detroit Free Press titled “Arab American Brothers sue cops. Waterford Township bias beating charged.” It
is also in response to a September 19, 2002 Media Advisory released by the Michigan Office of the Council on
American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI).
While the department is unable to respond to specific allegations raised by the plaintiffs, or to specific
questions from the media, Chief of Police, John B. Dean wishes to release this statement:
“Our officers acted completely appropriately. We will not try this case in the media. These allegations are
outrageous. We are ready and eager to go to trial, and we expect to be fully vindicated.”
The department would also like to note for the record that as of today, we have not yet been served a copy of
this lawsuit.
You know what, I woukd not be surprised if it happened, we have had cases of cops abusing power in a number of situations. They even mounted great resistence to charges even when their actions were caught on the tape.
However, I am going to watch wait and see. I dont want to pass a judgement at the cops in this case until I know more details, and I dont want to pass judgement on the plaintiffs until we know more.
Lets just wait and see.
btw a few bad cops dont mean that the entire system is in on this.

To end this continuous cycle of attacks on Hizb ut tahrir for there so called lies in this article i will end it because some people are on some kind of trip and making slanders for no reason.
Obviously if the people making slanders are feeling stupid right now its ok because nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes you don’t need to apologize because i know it is difficult for some people with big egos to make apologies.
When it is provided that it happened, and is not some cheap way to earn a quick buck, i will believe it. When there is proof not just a newspaper article.
Okay so we now know that something did take place. Now itsa just these guys words againt the police's word. The retired police dude says that no cop with good judgment etc will do that. However we know that there are cops with bad judgement. heck I got in trouble with two idiots once although eventually they had to give me a written apology.
I say take lie detector tests of everyone involved. God knows if there were any witnesses and how honmest the witnesses will be to begin with.
I am a little bit surprised that it has not made any major news yet. Now only if we had a video.
