Junk food to be banned in schools

The ban, from next September, has been announced by Education Secretary Ruth Kelly at the Labour Party conference.

Vending machines in schools will not be allowed to sell chocolates, crisps or fizzy drinks, Ms Kelly announced.

The School Meals Review Panel next week will give details of the nutritional standards for ingredients to be allowed in school meals.

Junk food scandal “I am absolutely clear that the scandal of junk food served every day in school canteens must end,” said Ms Kelly.

Wait a minute Kaleem. I thought you were a conservative? One of their biggest issues is to have things decided on a local level and not imposed by a bloated out-of-touch federal government. And now you implicate local governments as retarded. That goes against their very core principles. Do you not stand with your conservative soul mates on this issue either?

I am all for it. , federal law outlawing any religious references in gov't or educational matteras well...these are our kids we are talking about. Good going Kaleem...lets work together to keep Ronald McDonald and GOD away from corrupting young minds in schools and malls.

Being done at the local or the at the fed level does not make any difference I suppose..

It is a huge difference. States and local governments are responsible for school systems, not the feds. Conservatives in particular are supposed to be very concerned over the federal government becoming to powerful and taking control away from local governing bodies.
