US Marine urinated on dead Iraqi at Haditha Friday, May 11, 2007
CAMP PENDLETON: Angered that a beloved member of his squad had been killed in an explosion, a US Marine urinated on one of the 24 dead Iraqi civilians killed by his unit in Haditha, the Marine testified on Wednesday.
Sgt Sanick Dela Cruz, who has immunity from prosecution after murder charges against him were dismissed, also said he watched his squad leader shoot down five Iraqi civilians who were trying to surrender. …
Enough of US hatred.....these are the same marines who are also fighting insurgency day and night to keep Iraq united/prevent dis-integration over sectarian/ethnic lines.
^ I don't think its as simple as raising a flag for the marines for "fighting insurgency day and night". Its the US invasion and subsequent policies in Iraq that have created this nightmare, so the marines should be thanking their own government to put them in this situation. Arguably if the US hadn't invaded Iraq, we wouldn't be seeing this sectarian infighting and insurgency etc. Its a big what-if discussion and I don't want to get into that.
However, having said that, there is simply no excuse for the alleged actions by some of these people. Its a brutal and dreadful war and my sympathies to all those who have suffered as a result.
Nothing new. There were reports of American military personnel urinating on live prisoners at Baghram AFB in Afghanistan.
Post from Mutrob: You are very wrong. Sunnis are fighting because they will be the losers in Iraq's democracy (rule of majority). Being the insurgents, what would be a better of fighting the minority Sunnis than turning majority Shias on them.
I can almost bet you that the repulsive August 29, 2003, car b*mb that destroyed the holliest of Shia shrine in Iraq wasn't the work of Sunnis - if Sunnis didn't do it during their days in power, do you really think they would in a time of chaos?
Didn't you hear the last hajj sermon: "The enemy wants to divide us to occupy our resources." You "get a life" crowd needs to wake up.
that is sick and disgusting…what the hell are US still doing in iraq? get the hell out of there! bush wanted sadam dead, he got it…he also got his oil…now leave em alone
Daily times seems to be a preferred link for the posters here I suppose. While the journalistic etchics of this paper is not so known outside the islamic world, the reporting leaves much to be desired.
[Sgt Sanick Dela Cruz, who has immunity from prosecution after murder charges against him were dismissed, also said he watched his squad leader shoot down five Iraqi civilians who were trying to surrender. ...]
All things said and done why were these civilians trying to surrender. Did they do something wrong or were they just passerby civiians..

They are also the ones who started this whole mess... So why should we credit them with trying put back the pieces of something they broke in the first place?

Exactly.
You can ridicule Bush-Cheney-Rummy for invasion.... not the troops.
By stroking hatred towards troops, no one in Iraq is going to be benefitted
Such useless propaganda news (though they might be true) --must be kept away from media frenzy only for the sake of that country which is in a civil war.
Its not bush or chenney urinating on a dead body now is it? I hardly think any Iraqi would hold a noble opinion about US troops and can you blame them?
You are unbelievable, admitting that it might be true yet you consider it is not worth mentioning. I just hope you have the ability to put yourself in shoes of that iraqi's relative. Its inhumane to expect diplomacy from the family of victim.
Condemning the acts like these is one thing....and making a propaganda through media frenzy is another.
Those soldiers must have got their punishment.....I don't think any country in the world has wartime army behaving like holy cows.
Their are frustrated soldiers in every army and they have their rules and laws to punish them.
Umma should not forget that these soldiers are still trying their best to keep the country united and neither such pieces of news are helpful to the relatives of dead.
I won't be surprised if tomorrow media stage-manages a news for sensationalization......afterall their concern is a sensational news.
Funny you are talking about deviant media in context that this war was launched solely on the basis of propoganda and with the aid of media.
I'd love to know the reason for your assumption that soldiers were dealt with in a just manner.
You are already excusing and exempting them of any wrong doing fledging war frustration. What sort of quack will believe they are doing their best to keep the country united? Iraq was attacked by these ministering angels. Propoganda or not they are not respected, not welcome , not admired by Iraqis because they are invaders , attackers. I cant believe people expect iraqis to be grateful to these soldiers. Do you have any idea of what havoc a war wrecks on any country ? Can any fool look upto the invaders? And invader with such selfish aims and disgraceful behaviour? I hope what you wish for others comes your way sooner rather than later.
