Re: US hands in Pakistani Politics
Nopes, i don't think US has been behind all the changes, we are perfectly capable of plunging ourselves into disaster.
Its rather our politicians and generals who have been presenting themselves to US, "sir i can serve u better"
Re: US hands in Pakistani Politics

Re: US hands in Pakistani Politics
every democracy has hiccups. Just that our generals dont like these hiccups too much ![]()
Having said that, our politicians r not free of blame either. They have intrigued and egged on the military to take over themselves so US really doesnt need to do anything. We keep screwing ourself.

Almost every single major political leader in Pakistan has (and continues to) look towards America for support. Be it Liaqat Ali Khan, Ayub Khan, Zia Hul-Haq, Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, Pervez Musharraf etc. In recent years even the Mullah-ified leaders like NWFP CM Akram Khan Durrani and cricket kaptan-turned PTI leader Imran Khan have called at the US State Department to "explain" their policies. Then the likes of the latter come out and blast the American's for all our ills!
So, if the US has a hand in Pakistani politics it is only because it was our politicians and leaders first invited them, and continue to do so.
Re: US hands in Pakistani Politics
Pakistan's general and civil servants have always allowed Pakistan to be used by the US in the hope of perpetuating themselves. Genuiane political leaders (despite their preferences) have proven less easy to manipulate, simply because like any people Pakistanis don't like doing someone elses dirty work.
Re: US hands in Pakistani Politics
Yes, blame all of Pakistan's internal problems on America. It's our culture now.
Apparently, Americas FBI and CIA people roam around freely in Pakistan as if Pakistan's four intelligence agencies are on holiday. But I don't know how and why the four agencies are always wide awake whenever Hindustan looks at us with a 'meli aankhk'.
Very strange.

Liaqat Ali Khan set the tradition for relations with the USA. Was he a dictator as well?
Re: US hands in Pakistani Politics
A couple of years ago, none other than our MMA Chief Minister of NWFP went to the US State Department to explain his government’s policies.
At the outset, the chief minister informed that he tried to remove apprehensions with regard to the MMA government policies during his visit to the US on the invitation of a Christian organisation, Group for Global Engagement. He said he held meetings with US government officials at the State Department, Pentagon and National Security Council, spoke to US investors and businessmen, and met members of Pakistani community hailing from the NWFP and presently living in New York.

Re: US hands in Pakistani Politics
Another “lman of the Pakistani people” meeting US Congressmen to put his case for leadership.
US Congress team meets Nawaz
A four-member delegation of the US Congress met former prime minister Nawaz Sharif here on Saturday to what PML-N sources said get Mr Sharif’s assessment of the ongoing political turmoil in Pakistan. PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif and party’s information secretary Ahsan Iqbal accompanied Nawaz Sharif during the meeting with the US Congressmen. The meeting – first-ever between the former prime minister and high profile US political leadership since his ouster from power in October 1999 – lasted for over two hours. After the meeting, the US Congressmen left for Pakistan where they are expected to call on President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and other top government functionaries. Circles close to the ARD here did not rule out the possibility of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto mediating the Saturday’s meeting between the US Congressmen and PML-N leadership which has always felt uneasy at Ms Bhutto’s Washington leanings.
Online adds: The US Congressmen promised their support for the restoration of democracy and holding of fair and free elections in Pakistan.
They said: "Congress is considering proposals to link Pakistan’s economic assistance with progress on fighting terrorism and restoring democracy.”
