WASHINGTON: Many members of the Pakistani community in New Jersey, are outraged at a song and dance evening sponsored by a Pakistani restaurant on the night of Jumatul Wida’a.
The evening was called ‘Chand Raat’, a decision based on inexplicable logic since it is only celebrated after the sighting of Eid moon. Ironically, all those who attended were Pakistanis and danced to Indian bhangra music into the small hours. Obviously, none of them was in any frame of mind to rush to the nearest mosque to offer ‘taravee’ prayers.
The restaurant had also made arrangements for young girls to shop for bangles and have their hands painted with henna.Prime TV showed commercials advertising the ill-timed ‘Chand Raat’ for two weeks running.
When a Pakistani journalist asked the organisers why they had held the event, he was told “the MMA did not rule New Jersey.”
oh yea.. i see commercials of the chaand raat/dance party.. now if its a dance party... could be a mahaoul appropriate for families... i wouldnt liek it... personallly.. a new twist on celebrating chand raat i guess....
those who were going to do tareveeh were not going to do bhangra anyways, those who went to bhangra probably were not goignt o do taraveeh.
restaurant wanted to make money, and thats what it did. Let him do it, as wrong as we think it is, if there was no interest people would not show up and he would have flopped.
those who were offended by his actions are more than welcome to boycott his restaurant and take their business elsewhere. That should be enough of an impact.
openly criticizing his place may do wonders as well :) and unless its defamation, he cant do jack, after all taleban dunn rule NJ, freedom of speech exists :D
