US Guppies - How many desi people do you know who went through the "thug" phase?

Back when I was in high school and college (late 90s, early 00s), a lot of desi kids would go through a thug phase. It was like a “self discovery” and rebellion kind of a thing. They would suddenly identify with the thug lyfe, and everything about them reflected that. From their car to their dress, and the way they talked, it was all thugged out.

Then they would eventually snap out of it.

Yeah these kids were not exactly seen hanging out near the academic decathalon competitions, more like at the desi melas and other desi hangouts. Hookah wasn’t big back then, but car racing surely was.

So how many desis did you know who went through a thug phase? And does that still happen, or have desis found a self identity?

Rampant in our culture in Miami. We knew of some folks who were in gangs. Reportedly.
