Interesting. Hopefully the US can convince India to play a more productive role (note the word convince. The US does not "control" anyone). India needs the US to help it counterbalance China so hopefully India acquiesces.
The other interesting points of the portions of the report that have been leaked is that elements of ISI are *still *supporting the Taliban and even Shia Iran is supporting some Taliban groups. Does ISI have a suicide wish? When are they going to get over their obsession with "strategic depth"? Afghanistan is absolutely useless in a war against India. It has no wealth, no military to speak of, and a small population. Afghanistan would do nothing in a war with a nation of over a billion people.
The capitulation at Shermal -El- Sheikh could not have come without Pak providing porof to US and US preassure… About time Pak clean out S. A-stan, the north will always be with drug pushers.
He is not wrong … but Pakistani press it playing it to the galleries …
The report says that the United States has been asking India to scale back its operations in Afghanistan, urging it to shut down some of its “consulates” located in the areas where India has no major economic interests.
Now a statement like this clearly is meant to excite the Pakistani populance … but the truth of the matter is …no where in the report does it say this … this is the “masala” added by local press …
So what does it really say … here is what is says about India
India. Indian political and economic influence is increasing in Afghanistan, including significant development efforts and financial investment. In addition, the current Afghan government is perceived by Islamabad to be pro-Indian. While Indian activities largely benefit the Afghan people, increasing Indian influence in Afghanistan is likely to exacerbate regional tensions and encourage Pakistani countermeasures in Afghanistan or India
OOps … the general thinks the Indians activites are benefitting the Afghan people … because they are providing development and are involved in financial investment. His assesment is this development in Afghanistan is going to encourage regional tensions …
Now what does he say about Pakistan … will just leave you with this
Pakistan. Afghanistan’s insurgency is clearly supported from Pakistan. Senior leaders of the major Afghan insurgent groups are based in Pakistan, are linked with al Qaeda and other violent extremist groups, and are reportedly aided by some elements of Pakistan’s lSI

Re: US general criticises Indian influence in Afghanistan
^ oh ya off all the annihilated places in the world, india decides to shower its selfless benevolence and 'development efforts' in a country which just happens to be on pakistan's s*h*i*t list...pakistan is at war with these taliban/afghan elements and india's presence and support in that area is more than alarming thus the general's PG rated comments, what he really means to say is back off where troublemakers are not wanted or needed !!
^ Look, India cares about Afghanistan because it wants to keep Pakistan at bay. There is no denial in India or elsewhere. But to say that India is supporting people attacking Pakistan is ridiculous.
India has its vested interest in not having Pakistan spreading its influence there. Remember Taliban, hijacking, safe haven. India does not want a repeat of taliban and people sympathetic to it in Afghanistan and act as a magnet for attracting people opposed to India.
If Pakistan is feeling threatened then they should increase their humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and work with Afghan govt. This way India will not have any premise to be in Afghanistan at all.
Re: US general criticises Indian influence in Afghanistan
Simply put. India has a negative influence over the the entire dynamic in Afghanistan. Something Pakistan has been saying for years.
Re: US general criticises Indian influence in Afghanistan
Why would anyone with an iota of intelligence defend the state/establishment. Seriously, I cringe when I read posts like aam bhanda's.

And you get it how from the report ??????? Your understanding of english language, well i am very well aware of ... so will try to put it your way ... step by step....
1) US report talks about India's rile in the development of Afghanistan.
2) Afghans are benefiting from these developments.
3) But this developement (refering to the economic development here) is "bothering" Pakistan ....... because it increses the Indian influence in Afghanistan ......
Hope you undersatnd now :D

Ok they should support the Taliban. Taliban Jai ho...
I understand that you cringe when you read reality. If people are in the dark for so long, they would feel bad when they come out in the sun. Though it is a discomfort, taking occassional strolls in reality is good for health.

Either reply to my comment properly or don't reply at all. Hiding behind sarcasm just shows your lack of understanding of how *all *governments function.

Sorry to make you cringe .... but what state / establishment are you referring to ???
Re: US general criticises Indian influence in Afghanistan
^ the RamRaj establishment

The government. Your post like many other posts by Indians (and Paks) shows support for the state.

So who should we support .... the terrorist !!!! In any case the support is on the policies ... so if the policies are not correct, surely we will talk about it .
To bring you upto date .... right now the discussion is on a Pakistan news article about US generals report ... unfortunately the article does not say what the report is saying. Perhaps the person who wrote the article was banking on the fact that most of these reports are "classifed" .... so basically they can quote whatever they want and say it is written in the report ..... but in this case teh report is de-classifed ... so you can read it ..... and see what teh report says.
This is turning out into the famous "Baluchistan dossier" .... one that never was :D

I guess for you that is a positive influence.

Can you tell me what is Pakistans positive influence in Afghanistan.
Re: US general criticises Indian influence in Afghanistan
This is not about Pakistan. Can you Indians get over your fixation regarding us? We cut the cord a long time ago. Why do you still think about us?

You have a problem with indias wrong influence in Afghanistan. So please explain what Pakistan would do in Afghanistan if India withdraw from their missions in Afghanistan. Will you complete the work India is doing.
