iraq would be a huuuuuuge mess if and when iran wants it to be, and unlike now, the violence will be directed at the cloisters of american presence. the influence iran has over iraq is religious and not political, therefore it cant be stopped by say toppling key leadership figures. iran will retaliate by broadening its ground operations because they know they cant match america's aerial/navy prowess. there is nothing america can do right now aside from making noise and hoping that iraq fixes itself magically before iran gets the nukes.
its going to stay a stalemate.
