**US drone attack kills four militants in Pakistan: Officials **
****MIRANSHAH: After a lull of about 55 days, the valleys of Pakistan’s tribal region reverberated once more with missile fire from stealthy US air borne drones. Two missiles destroyed a militant compound in Pakistan’s tribal area near the Afghan border, killing four militants late on Tuesday, security officials said.
The missiles struck a compound on the outer skirts of Miranshah, in the North Waziristan region, killing four, one official said.
The attack triggered a fire in the building and flames could be seen from the roof of houses in Miranshah, five kilometres away, residents reported.
The drone attack and the casualties were confirmed by two other security officials.
The strike was the first since US-Pakistan relations plunged to their lowest level after the November 26 helicopter strikes on a border check post which killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

I dont think that the army has given permission to the Americans to carry out drone attacks especially in the current situation. But we should also keep in mind that they haven't barred them from using Pakistan's airspace. The day Pakistan does that, the relationship between the two countries will fall apart.
Two things seem to be going against the army:
1) Firstly our army is alienating itself from its own people by its image of kidnapping, killing and dumping people (Balochistan) and the way they have conducted the war on terror in Pakistan (divide and rule, creation of militias to confront the taleban, and the allegations on them regarding good/bad taleban). The way intelligence has failed to pre empt and prevent terror attacks has also signalled weakness in our security infrastructure.
2) Americans are also hitting the army where it hurts most, like drone attack after Raymond Davis that killed 40 tribal elders, followed by drone attacks whenever some higher dignitaries from America visited Pakistan. In spite of Pakistan's verbal statements to the Americans to stop the drone attacks they have continued, OBL operation without Pakistan's consent, the killing of 25 soldiers in Mohmand (no apology) and then this drone attack when the relations between the two countries is already low.
All these things have not only created a feeling of insecurity amongst the people but also exposed the weakness of our army. With the passage of time the gulf between the army and the Pakistani people is increasing. I fear 2012 to be a very tough year for our armed forces, as this is the best time for the Americans to completely discredit them and go ahead with whatever they have in their minds regarding Pakistan.
