During the campaign, President Obama was pretty clear that he thought to solve South Asia’s problems, you need a very collective approach, and he was – he talked a lot about Kashmir. It – from what – it doesn’t sound like Holbrooke’s mandate is trying to mediate between India and Pakistan. Is that right? And, if so, why not, because everyone sort of agrees that is the fundamental issue in that region?

His mandate is to go out and try to help bring stability to Afghanistan, working closely with Pakistan to try to deal with the situation in the FATA region. what else can you expect from the Indian media?? Obama has clarified that he respects muslims and as a son of a muslim, he will do his best as the most powerful man to see Kashmir liberated and handed to Pakistan. Hindus must have started peeing in their pants knowing Obama will send forces from Iraq to Kashmir to fight Hindus and protect muslim interests.

While I found the title amusing :), the shift in US policy (or should I say reverting back to its old policy) is interesting. Looks like better sense prevailed on Obama…

In a major shift in the policy of United States toward Kashmir, the government of US says Kashmir is a wholly an internal matter of India and Washington has no role in solving it.

It seems like Washington is going to leave Pakistan out in the cold on the Kashmir issue. The US government spokesperson Robert Wood on Wednesday (January 28) clarified its stand on Kashmir, saying it was not part of their country’s mandate.

The news comes as a severe blow to Islamabad which has long called for Washington to mediate on the contentious problem of Kashmir. On the other hand, this comes as welcome news for India which has always sought to tackle the Kasmir issue bi-laterall with no international interference.

**Implications of the statements **

The implications of the statements coming out of the White House firstly make it clear that the US will not mediate on Kashmir. This clearly indicates that the issue will continue to be an internal matter for the Indian government.

Pakistan will have to deal directly with India since it is a bi-lateral matter without an external influence.

The statements finally make it clear that separatist leaders can no longer hope to internationalize the matter.

The United States has made it clear that its newly appointed special envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan - Richard Holbrooke - has no mandate to deal with Kashmir and his sole job is to help bring stability to Afghanistan.

How does that mean the US has trashed Pakistan's hopes, as if Pakistan was relying on them in the first place to solve the problem. So if you understand this statement the spokesperson is saying that let India and Pakistan settle the Kashmir isssue ..... as it is India's stated position that it does not want any outside interference in a bilateral dispute !!!!

As for Pakistan's hopes being trashed ......Pakistan has been going around telling everyone that the peace in the region is connected to the settelment of kashmir issue. And the US administration has gone out of its wat to clarify that the envoy appointed is ONLY for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Also today Hillary Clinton made it perfectly clear that the trouble in this REGION is because of the trouble in Afghan - Pak border. Now you can read whatever you want to read into this ......

Maybe you understand Kiyani's interview better then Lalu's ... no fault ... it happens when one has been living in a military regime ....

It has trashed “Pak’s hopes” because Pak had been trying to “internationalize” India’s internal issue of Kashmir and more recently relying on Barack “Hussein” Obama to mediate in the Kashmir issue. Does not look like thats happening anytime soon

Indian says : A part of Jammu and Kashmir was occupied by Pakistan in 1947/48 when India was in a nascent stage of being a country, we hope Pakistan will give back the land which it has been holding for more than 60 years and solve the boundary dispute.

Well, im sure your glad its business as usual then. India can continue depriving Kashmiris of their rights, rape, murder, mysterious disappearness etc... You know the typical for Indians.
Then poor helpless India can moan and groan over Mumbai.

Still, its obvious that Obama and others recognize the real issue is Kashmir, even if constipated Indians dont see the reality for what it is.
