US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. There is a huge disparity depending on location. And clearly resources are not being divided in a equitable fashion. Due to the inequality this has caused a national issue which is very serious when there is meddling from outsiders. You should still keep in mind although southern Punjab is relatively poorer than its northern counterpart. S. Punjab still receives many benefits through the trickle down effect and this is because of location. If business is booming in the north then subsequently the south does benefit through increase of jobs etc.. Unlike Baluchistan which is isolated due to its large size.

I just think the Baluchis have it the worst in comparison to other states. Maybe on par with tribal areas

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

I'll expand on the points made by Med911 and CEO1. There is one issue of how the federal government treats the provinces and the. How the provincial governments conduct themselves, for example if chief minister Punjab spends most of the budget on a few urban areas what has the federal government to do with it? Similarly gillani spent most of his budget for south Punjab on multan alone instead of an equitable distribution. If the gap is not bridged between relatively well to do and poverty stricken areas we will have more issues in the future. However at the moment the issue in balochistan is more driven by the desire of the balochis to be considered equal to other Pakistanis. When this is sorted out then the focus of the government would automatically go towards impoverished areas like GB/AK, south Punjab, interior Sindh, Balochistan and Fata.

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

So, are you saying the federal government shouldn't be blamed for the policies by provincial govt? So, they just sit back and take no notice?

How about starting by getting people with real skills and leadership qualities to lead provincial govts?

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

The difference between how we treat balochistan is evident from the way, how the army conducts operations in their areas. Can we even think of any operation like this in Punjab? The 'alleged' terrorists are abducted, killed and dumped without carrying out legal proceedings. The strangest thing is that the military as well as political leaders are willing to talk to the taleban who have killed thousands of people but cannot even think of negotiating with the Baloch militants who have killed far lesser people, and maybe they can easily be weaned away from terrorism if accorded respect.

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

As I posted earlier unless both parties come together and work through the issues in particularly the education, healthcare and Baluchistan receiving its fair share of the budget.

Just look on the links again, you can not find many things in Pakistani media .
If you go into history , These poor civilian added Gawader into Pakistan in July 58 , Otherwise your brave armed dictators did nothing except giving us problems and sending it down . A civilian made Pakistan atomic power and another explored it .
The last links I have posted are Indian and not published in Pakistan .

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

Exactly. Balochistan can not be quelled with brute force. There are injustices that need to be corrected and addressed as quickly as possible.

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

Unlike the Taliban and their Punjabi counterparts, the Baloch militant dont win any of the major parties extra votes. If PMLn and JUI could win votes by courting the Baloch, they would have been ready to talk to them from the start.

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

There will be no remedy as long as Pakistan doesnt fix itself from top down. The countries leaders exploit every inch of the country, be it in Punjab, FATA or Karachi at the expense of the poor. What chance do the poor Baloch have in such a situation?

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

Thats like India turning around and saying to Pakistan "Kashmir is our internal matter" and the Russians saying that about Chechnya ete etc etc.

I do not believe in splitting the country but then again I am more opposed to parts of any country being forced to stay with a country against its own will. If we can support Palestine, Kashmir why not an independent Balochistan?

Pakistan has failed the Baloch and personally I think it may be too late sadly. I would hate to see Balochistan independent but then again I would hate more to see it being forced to stay with a country which it does not want to be a part of. Sadly i have met very few Baloch who believe in Pakistan anymore.

Many arguments had been put forward about the creation of Pakistan from a portion of India yet it has defied some odds. Your concerns about Balochistan would be seen as very patronising by the Baloch. They want a chance to prove themselves, why should we deny it to them?

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

Who is asking you to be our desi Rohrbacher? Kashmir is a UN issue if not an unfinished agenda of the partition.

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

There is quite clearly an independence movement going on and it is spreading. It has spread to Mekran. Most Baloch are not interested in Pakistan anymore. I do not like the idea of Balochistan being independent especially being one of the very few here to have visited it here outside of Quetta but we have no right to force them to stay with us. Pakistan is just a country - genocide and brutality should never be used by any country to keep its power and rule on others.

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

is it true, Nawab Siraj Raisani is holding "ishq-e-Pakistan movement rallies across Balochistan? he is saying he wants to educate Baloch about Pakistan importance

I saw this one video where hundreds of Baloch were shouting slogans of Pakistan Zindabad and Nawab Siraj was saying that he wants to prove it to the world many Baloch are not in favor of a seperate land.

I wonder, besides holding rallies, has he done any developmental work for locals?

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

If you mindset prevailed every nation would be balkanized to a point where every man is for himself. Our Bloch problems aren't as complex as many are making out it to be, and most Blochs don't want separate homeland as you're arguing. Out of entire province, there are 3 districts that are trouble spots. Btw, Baluchistan, is like Kurdistan, under control of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. If you want independent Baluchistan why should only Pakistan volunteer to give up its part?

Re: US Congressman Rohrabacher demands referendum in Balochistan

I read a statement from Khair Bux Marri once that the baloch should decide themselves if they can survive as an independent entity or not. An independent Balochistan would be vulnerable to attack from Iran. If they have to chose between the two, they'd opt for Pakistan.
