US closely watching all Pakistanis

Isnt this discrimination based on country of origin. Why single out Pakistanis?

Pakistanis put under close watch

The US Department of Homeland Security has ordered inspectors at America’s largest airports to scrutinise all travellers of Pakistani descent - including US citizens - in an effort to catch terrorist trainees trying to enter the country.

The order is a sign of growing concern over Islamic militants’ training camps in Pakistan.

The Customs and Border Protection agency has specifically called for intensified searches at Los Angeles International Airport and at the main international airports in New York, Washington, Chicago, Detroit and Newark.

Agents are being told to look for signs of physical injuries - such as rope burns, unusual bruises and scars - that could have occurred during paramilitary training.

A Pakistani diplomat in Washington attacked the warning as unwarranted. It could undermine relations between the US and Pakistan, he said.

A Homeland Security official confirmed that the warning had been issued, but said it was confidential and one of many such briefings given to agents as part of the department’s developing border enforcement.

It was, however, the first to deal with training camps in Pakistan.

The official said agents had been told to take particular note of recent travellers to Pakistan and “to look for other clues”.

Most of the Pakistan camps were believed to be overseen by militants whose organisations had links to al-Qaeda, the official said. They were probably less sophisticated than the operations that al-Qaeda oversaw in Afghanistan before the US-led military campaign to destroy them in late 2001.

The warning to customs agents was based on general concerns about activity at such camps, and not on any specific information about a planned attack, the official said.

But the warning states that “it is reasonable to expect that many of the individuals trained are destined to commit illegal activities in the United States”.

The deputy chief of mission at the Pakistan embassy in Washington, Mohammad Sadiq, said the warning threatened to undermine the close working relationship between the two countries in the counter-terrorism fight.

“It is not only unfortunate, but based on ignorance,” Mr Sadiq said.

“Warnings like these… harm us a lot and they harm Pakistani Americans and people from Pakistan who visit the United States.”

Even before the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, US authorities and their counterparts in India closely monitored training camps, which they contend have trained Islamic militants fighting with Pakistan against India in the contested area of Kashmir.

Last month the staff of the independent commission investigating the September 11 attacks concluded in a report that Pakistan’s military and intelligence services had worked closely with al-Qaeda and its former supporters in Afghanistan, the Taliban, in training militants and other operational efforts.

Although Pakistan is a key ally of the US in its war on terror, its troops have been unable to prevent al-Qaeda and Taliban fugitives from sneaking into Pakistan and finding a haven in its mountainous tribal areas and its cities.

Simple reason which was discussed on another thread here.

Pakistan still has many Al Qaida linked terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and such who are officially banned but still operate openly after changing names. LeT members have already been arrested in US and Australia for plotting terror attacks. LeT camps are still running in Pak. Since the Pak govt is unwilling or unable to completely shut down LeT, JeM etc, US has to take this precaution. Yes, it is profiling, but it is logical also.

US closely watching all Pakistanis

tum kitni sunder dikhti ho...woh bechaare kiya kareiN.

Channji, you look more Pakistani than I do. I look very Arabic and Persian. Haha….

Since when have any of the groups you have mentioned attacked US interests? Plus if they have, besides American Intelligence (what an oxymoron) what sources confirm those incidents? I said it once and I’ll say it again, Al-Qaeda was created after 911, show me where it even existed before the US pulled it out of their ass to cover up their own inadequacies. If indeed it is All Powerful organization with LINKS to all these conveniently Muslim Jihadi movements, then I am sure it would have retaliated to the Iraq, Afghan wars, with something bigger than car bombs

As for the US has to take this precation, hmmm, pretty soon they'll be using that as an excuse to invade Pakistan.

Jaish-e-Mohammed killed Daniel Pearl, attacked the US consulate and Bahawalpur church, even according to Pak govt.

As to LeT.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5218311/

In australia, 3 LeT members are currently on trial for planning to attack many places including the Luas Heights nuclear reactor in Sydney.

Note that these are British, US, Australian and Frenh police and investigators all saying the LeT was plotting attacks. Why would Frenchmen cook up something?

Get real. Pakistani jihadis are a threat to the world. Unless Musharraf and others end the jihadi groups, other innocent Pakistanis are going to pay the price for the jihadis’ actions.

CNN, MSNBC
As for the French and Britain I have yet to see any official statements.
The LeT doesn’t have the funds it takes to do all that if they did, I am sure they would be more busy doing damage in Kashmir then waste time on a church

I am also sure that there are worse problems in Pakistan than the death one American and a damaged church. I agree some of these groups need to kept in check but the price Pakistan is paying is not even close to worth it.

Get real.

LeT has heavy funding from the Saudis. The whole world's AhleHadith movement funds LeT related groups. It is the single largest Saudi money receiveer in Pakistan.

Face the truth. Pakistani jihadis are destroying any hope for investment as well as runing the nation's image and causing untold problems for innocents. Terrorism hurts everyone, including terorists and their supporters ;)

If your nation wants to be an "ally" in the "war on terror" it better end jihadi groups or face the music.

LeT is big in UK also thanks to http://www.ahlehadith.co.uk/branches/map.htm

mr talwar…go and drink blood of kashmiris ..u dont see blood of 90000 muslims…huh…thanxss for ur links…u r too immature to understand politics

:rotfl: :rotfl:

In case you have been living under a rock the past few decades, let me inform you that the US controls the royal family’s finances since the Gulf War. Which is why they are still in power, they have US backing. Not to mention all the oil that go into those B52 bombers and stealth planes.

As for being an ally in the war of terror, if that means giving up everything our ancestors have sacraficed for, then bring on the music.

So much for Pakistan helping the Amerikkan on there war on islam.

Musharraff help the US and the US treats pakistan like one of its own texas farms and its citizens seen as potential terrorists thats nice!

Oh the American ba$tards stopping Pakistanis from freely travelling in US. My suggestion to all the Pakistani guppies. Start inundating Musharraf with emails asking him to stop taking billions of dollars that US gives Pakistan. The total given in 2001,2 and 3 was 1.8 billion dollars. And that's just for military hardware. I don't know how much more US pays to allow its forces to operate out of Pakistan.

So, don't take their money and criticise them all you want.
