Truth be told and i'm sure Indians know this too from the nature of Britains and Americans that when they leave, it won't turn around to hand India they guardship, they'll just take off leaving the region to sort out whatever Afghanistan happens to be in at the time.
Without indulging in prejudice, I am sure when new President Obama said that he wants a more peaceful and long lasting solution in Afghanistan by involving all parties then surely he means to clear the mess of armed Talibani jeehadis first then increase financial aid to develop infrastrcuture and economy.
A stable Afghanistan is in America's interest, beacuse that is what American government thinks is the right step to prevent another terror attck on american soil as 9/11 happened with origin from Afghanistan.

Nobody advocated governing, the Afghans, it's you who interpreted it that way.
What it means is helping them directly in establishing a proper governance system where Afghans are trained enough to govern themselves on their own without going back to their previous pious Talibani Islamic ways!!
