US asks India's help in stabilizing Afghanistan

I think, being the largest democracy in Asia, it’s about time India involve herself, for greater peace and stability in the region.
It can’t be more clear than above statement, when US envoy says they want India fully involved in re-building Afghanistan.

For that to happen, India first needs to adsress false fear of Pakistan. Stability of Afghanistan is also in Pakistan’s interests.
Peace and propserity in this region will be good as it will prevent any further meddling by western world in the region.

India is already one of the largest aid donor to Afghanistan and has shown noble gesture by building roads, schools and infrastrcuture.

However, without eliminating Talibani threat and threat of terrorism from region, development and economic progress cannot be achieved.

Re: US asks India's help in stabilizing Afghanistan

India should allow Afghanistan to expand it's opium market.

^^ I know you are sarcastic.

seriously, to govern Afghanistan they need to establish and train the local governance.

US brought complete stability in Iraq, first by eliminating Al Qaeda, Mahdi army militias by brutally launching military operations and then by steadily wiorking to train governance and administration.

Afghanistan has weak governance in remote area, that leads to opium and other illegal arms trade to flourish. Then there are regular raids, attacks from Talibanis from across the border in Pakistan.

The real problem is eliminating competely, Taliban first, opium ban and measures to improve economy, governance can be worked out after that.

Re: US asks India's help in stabilizing Afghanistan

India should mind its own business, and continue "thriving" in the IT field. Truth be told and i'm sure Indians know this too from the nature of Britains and Americans that when they leave, it won't turn around to hand India they guardship, they'll just take off leaving the region to sort out whatever Afghanistan happens to be in at the time.

So it would be best if both India and Pakistan not indulge in "governing" Afghanistan, because it'll come back to bite real hard.

USA brought stability to Iraq? :hehe: when did that happen? I must’ve missed the headlines. At the end of the day, USA had to admit keeping peace with Mahdi Brigade and even extend out to Iran (the arch nemesis according to Bush). And now they’re pulling out of there faster than you can say “shock n awe”

Now India wants to drink the same US Cola? Go right ahead friends, but it’ll turn out to be another “told you so!” situation.

Without indulging in prejudice, I am sure when new President Obama said that he wants a more peaceful and long lasting solution in Afghanistan by involving all parties then surely he means to clear the mess of armed Talibani jeehadis first then increase financial aid to develop infrastrcuture and economy.

A stable Afghanistan is in America's interest, beacuse that is what American government thinks is the right step to prevent another terror attck on american soil as 9/11 happened with origin from Afghanistan.

Nobody advocated governing, the Afghans, it's you who interpreted it that way.
What it means is helping them directly in establishing a proper governance system where Afghans are trained enough to govern themselves on their own without going back to their previous pious Talibani Islamic ways!!

It is happening right now, keep yourself updated, it helps.

Iraq is getting stabilized, slowly but surely. Nowadays, you will rarely hear, violence or suicide attacks.

Most important, after a long time, Iraq's MAJORITY Shia population has got a right to govern themselves, elect their leader(Al Malki -- a Shia).

Previously it was a Sunni extremist leader Saddam who oppressed majority Shia and Kurds and governed the whole Iraq as a dictator.

Now Iraq is in totally new era. They can hold elections. They can elect their leader from their own community. US after supervising this whole process and transition will eventually leave. Obama has already declared that he will pull out from Iraq if the things progress peacefully as they are now.

Slowly, Iraq is stabilizing and MOST important it is a DEMOCRACY now among a herd of Sunni Arab countries which are mostly family/dynasty ruled disctatirships including their neighbors so called "leader of ummah" Saudi Barbaria.

Re: US asks India's help in stabilizing Afghanistan

"We cannot settle issues like Afghanistan, and many other issues without India's full involvement,” said Holbrooke in New Delhi.

In other words, Americans are politely asking Indians NOT to destabilize Pakistan.
Good start but a lot more needs to eb done.

You can make whatever you want out of that comment depending on what suits you. The way I look at it, US wants India to stay engaged in Afghanistan - something the Pakistanis don't want ;)

It is time US understands that it cannot play "favourites" in this region. India is an important player and they need to recognise the ground realities !!!!

Obama was keen on "jumping" into the Kashmir cauldrom .... today his envoy has stated very clearly .... they are washing their hands off it. Seems they have learnt their lesson. If they want peace in the region they have to keep India's interest in mind.
