As India’s economic and strategic ties to the United States expand, defence contractors are eyeing its growing military budget and ageing arsenal as a multibillion dollar opportunity. The deteriorating India-Pak relationship definitely has something to do with the increasing defence budget.
This means we will soon see Black Hawks & F-18s in the IAF. Its about time we upgrade the air force. But, I am sure this will not help the already strained relationship between India & Pak.
Bad for the people of both countries, as funds used for weapons procurement could have been used for development.
Re: US arms companies see India as a growing market
So basically USA is gonna sell all its old equipement to India as it modernize its Forces.
And the money is is going to fund new defense projects in USA and to pockets of workers in Texas and Washington. Money which could have fed a billion Indians who otherwise will starved.

Brilliant Strategy by India.
wondering f-16 are better or F-18. can anyone put some light on it?
Re: US arms companies see India as a growing market
f-18 are naval aircraft where as f-16 are land based air craft.
the f-18 have different engine designs to deal with ocean related weather and have different docks to carry anti-ship, submarine missiles and have different armaments to take out costal areas and counter measures against sea based weaponry and have strong thrust engines to take off from Air Craft Carriers.
Where as F-16 are land based fighters with weapon and engine configuration for land based warfare.
So overall, F-18 is better because it can be adapted after modifications for land based warfare but most militaries perfer to have aircraft for their seperate roles. F-16 for land based operations, F-14, F-15, or F-18, Harriers, Mirage for Sea based warfare

Bhai india is planning to buy F-18 then aapne yeh kyon likha USA is gonna sell all its old equipement to India as it modernize its Forces.
u didnt wrote any comment when paksitan went for f-16
Re: US arms companies see India as a growing market
You have hit the nail on its head. These are my thoughts exactly.
What our defence planners dont realise is that by the time these F-16s start arriving in India and Pakistan after 15 years, Russia will fly Su-37, US, UK and Germany will fly JSF and US itself will fly F-22 Raptor.
So like in 2034, we can see a headline in Indian or Pakistani newspapers :
**US offers F-22 Raptor to India
**or :
US offers F-35 to Pakistan
And by that time US and France will be flying unmanned aircraft, which may outperform piloted ones.
So basically IAF and PAF are destined to fly the MiG-21s or F-7s of ANY era.
*USAF itself has stopped inducting F-16s for itself.
It is very well known that the last F-16 production line is in Fort Worth, Texas which is George Bush's election stronghold. 5000 jobs and billions of dollars of revenue is what that Texan oilman wants from selling F-16s to India and Pakistan. *
All this talk of India being a 'strategic partner' and Pakistan being a key ally on the 'war-on-terror' is rubbish.
Re: US arms companies see India as a growing market
the problem is india has so many planes from so many diverse areas that building maintenance facilities is very expensive and as a result India has one of the worst air maintenance records for Air Forces....
Re: US arms companies see India as a growing market
Like merc put it, F-16 & F-18 are almost the same type of aircrafts. F-18 is like the naval version of F-16. F-16 has only one engine, and is easier to maintain. F-18 has two engines, and is harder & more expensive to maintain. Double-engined aircrafts are preferred more, because in the event of an engine failure in the middle of the ocean (that is if u have an aircraft carrier), the other engine can help u get back to the carrier or to a safer area. If you have a single-engined a/c, and the engine fails in the middle of the ocean, you are dead meat, and probably no ship or heli will be able to rescue you.
Apart from this, the F-16 has a higher payload (can carry more arms).
Pakistan reduced the number of F-16’s it ordered by almost 40%, after the earthquake.
Besides, the funding of these F-16’s are not coming from Pakistan, rather from a set amount of military aid given by U.S. Pakistan can choose to pay for the F-16’s itself, and the military aid will remain where it is (i.e. be used to buy something else for the military), but** that amount of aid is dedicated by U.S only for Pakistan’s military** (it is not for the economy). Pakistan was given a choice to either buy it with the aid, or buy it with PAF’s own funds; Pak chose U.S aid.
Re: US arms companies see India as a growing market
The US military industry is the one of the biggest and most powerful bussiness of this country. It started largely b/c the military contracts were being privatized - i.e. private corporations got sub-contracts to make lets say part for the naval ships. so now the military industrial complex (which is huge - very powerful and at the root of a lot of the conflicts the world over) ow this industry is big private corporations.
However, since the tax-payers would obviously not want to pay these big salaries - the money is re-routed as development aid which ends up in these corporations pockets. For instance - Israel - this tiny little relatively developed country - gets the most amount of US aid - twice as much as eygpt the second largest reciever of aid. so Israel gets this money and this money gets used to buy weapons from the US - so basically very conveniently US tax $'s get used to buy weapons for Israel and these corporations make lots of $$.
Not to mention historically the US has been strong allies with nations that bought weapons, if u didn’t buy weapons from them, there is generally a coup d’etat or the president just dies!!!
the former Irani shah - best friends of the US - one of thier igger weapons buyer! the new Iranian regime not so friendly! Zia - yup our dear late president, one hte US god friends - also a big buyer!!!
There is this book, written by a former NSA (national ssec. agency - something like a CIA) officer wrote its called confessions of an economic hitman - its about what he used to do mostly in latin america..with poor countries. first they would make them take out loans (either by buying the pres. out - giving them lots of money in other countries etc/ by killing them) these loans would then be used to pay US corporations that were in that country looting it of its natural resources. so now the country is stuck with the bill! and none of it went for development!!!
So the solution is not to buy weapons!! b/c we are feeding this evil industry!!!
and no matter how much we upgrade there will always be more competition - b/c thats how they make money - there will always be a threat!!! we need to invest our money in development - not freaking weapons! b/c this money..it will eventually be used to kill more innocent ppl.
This industry - under the bush administration - is incredibly powerful as far as domestic US politics and econmics are concerned.
So please - if u go to college or school in pakistan!! spread the word!! do u have events that student groups host. Have a discussion panel… where u invite guest speakers, to come and talk about these sort of subjects and then..afterwards students can comment or question. Do u have this sorta stuff in pakistan, if you do - please let me know.
I would love to help organize events that would get this truth out!!!
Re: US arms companies see India as a growing market
Don't know why people are fighting over this. One is saying it's rubbish and the other is saying it's a waste of money.
I say great news for Hindustan.
The only way to provoke China into unleashing it's war-mongering approaches towards Hindustan is to arm Hindustan to teeth... You never know, China might end up giving JXX to Pakistan for free.

no china will not! china just brokered a woderful bussiness deal with India! they are good frieds now!!! what did they say...india will be the worlds offfcie and chinda its factories!! something like that!!!
china wants to maintain good relations with india! but it would be very sad for india if they buy into the evil corpotocracy and buy weapons! there fate will be no different then any other third world country - given all the wealth of the world - but for a price - its freedom! its like having a diomond leash!!! its luxurious but a leash nevertheless!!
i hope india and paksitan will both onde day smarten up and stop falling prey to this shinanigans!
