The US House of Representatives has approved an amendment which would cut US aid to Pakistan by half, bringing the amount down to $650 million, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday.
Calling Pakistan the “Benedict Arnold” of nations, Representative Ted Poe complained about the level of Islamabad’s cooperation in the fight against terrorism, the report said. It added that the members of the Congress were particularly angry with Pakistan’s conviction of Dr Shakil Afridi, who conducted a fake polio vaccination in order to help CIA track down al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.
“Pakistan doesn’t deserve the American money,” Poe was quoted as saying.
According to a report by Politico, Poe had first demanded a $1.3 billion cut from Pakistan’s military aid and had initially won the endorsement of Representative Bill Young, but later a cut of $650 million was settled upon.
The Politico report also quoted Poe as saying that Pakistan is “playing” America.
The unsteady relations between Pakistan and the US were coming back on track when Pakistan reopened the Nato supply routes in return for an apology offered by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. But this cut in aid may harm the ongoing efforts between the two countries to maintain a balanced relation.
Hor mangwaao maafiaN :smack:
Well, when you decide to become a permanent parasite and give all sorts of leverages to others, then you simply cannot complain for anything. Not only that beggars cann’t be choosers — they cannot be friends either.
America and allies should do the decent thing and ban high level Pakistani ministers, officials and army officers from travelling to their countries too.
I support US decision to cut the aid, and I concur with rangoli that that they should cut the aid altogether. It has not been put to any use of the Pakistani public in any case.
Cut the aid completely. Considering the scandals USAID has had with its contractors in Pakistan its amazing they still call it aid.
You do know that AED went bust after USAID found out it committed fraud when it was trying to provide aid to flood victims? It never reached the average person.
American aid has never benefitted ordinary Pakistanis. It is for the benefit of the looteras at the top. so reduce it or cut it, wouldnt make any difference to the ordinary person in the street.

Before you write, have read the news? The cut is on military aid not the economic aid. Are your comments are still the same for army?
No I dont know how to read english so I didnt read it. I am no fan of the army and took a very active role against Zia, so dont go around accusing me of army love. Military aid or economic aid the only beneficaries are the looteras at the top not the people of Pakistan.
Whether the aid is for army or 'civilian govt' it should be completely eliminated, the 'aid' makes them want more and do more, makes them more dependent on them instead of self.

That should have been thought by Liaqat Ali Khan and army a long time ago. The plant they sowed soon after partition, has become a very strong tree in 62 years with roots deep down the earth.
this myth of aid is just insane, they make it look like alot of money is going into Pakistan for the wellbeing of Pakistan, when the reality is far off from it.
and this just gives them license to humiliate /bully us and attack on our sovereignty every other day.
