So, the hope is to find better treatments/cures for diseases such as cancer, diabetes etc.

Not to play devil’s advocate, but if we find a cure to everything, is there any chance that, *eventually *, we will obliterate the only certainty in life; death?

This phrase just came to mind and it has very less relevance with this thread but I believe anything is possible. In the light of the ahadith about end times there's one that says "dajjal will be able to give life and death" so it could be taken in literal meaning.

No, we'll never escape death because a cure only works for so long. Sometimes alternative treatments will give you a couple more months, or even years but nothing permanent. You also have to consider how expensive this stuff is, if people can't afford cycles of antibiotics, how will the general public afford new treatments?
