Fanatic - (a person who is excessively enthusiastic about something).
I must admit, you are the first person I've ever come across who believes that Saddam was a 'fanatic'. The worst thing about your attempt is that you actually tried to prove this with your above post.
The atrocities you mention were part and parcel of a Fascist way of Control. Similar to the one US operates, (survival of the strongest) and not a fanatical ideology.
The hallmarks of Saddam's way of rule are similar to Mussolini, Hitler and Bush. The actual birthlace of this ideology dates back to the Sparta era.
Learn to differentiate between convenient negative labelling and factual ideologies.!

You have got to be kidding me, right?
If the bodies being unearthed from mass graves on a daily basis by frantic Iraqi's desperate to discover some fragment of clothing which might help them to learn the fate of their loved ones are not examples of fanaticism, what do you call it?
I think cutting off ears and cutting out tongues of those who were perceived to be anti-Saddam is also evidence of fanaticism. What do you think?
Dropping dissidents into industrial shredders might also be termed fanaticism by some.
Gassing portions of your own population also fits within the definition I would think.

Yes, Iraq has been "LIBERATED"... yeaaaaaaaa.... Gr8 America. Thank you FOX for telling us all the evil works of Saddam.
But wait, is that the war was fought for? I am still waiting for the "WMD" to be found at the unrefutable places with unrefutable evidences.
You really must give meaning to all words that I include in my posts. I usually put words in because I feel they have some meaning. Otherwise, I would leave them out.
I wrote: "Any person who is carried away ** beyond reason ** by his feelings or beliefs is a fanatic. "
I will certainly grant you that in many cases it is strictly a matter of one's opinion as to whether someone has allowed the exuberance and zealousness of their feelings and beliefs to overcome their ability to function in accord with "reason. " In Saddam's case, it is not a close call. In your case and in my case, maybe it is close.
