So my parents had spoken to a decorator (I don’t want to name them yet) for the wedding and simply ask for a quote for the valima as we needed to confirm with the groom’s side since they’re paying for the valima, and they had asked us to get a quote.
So my parents clearly told the decorator that the only confirmed booking is for the shaadi and the valima is not confirmed yet because we need to speak to the groom’s side before confirming. And so they paid the deposit for the shaadi and said they’d pay the valima deposit the following week if the groom’s side says okay for valima.
Now the groom’s side doesn’t want to get it done by them so we informed the decorator (a week after) that we don’t want the* valima* booking only the shaadi. And he says he’s already booked in both days and we have to pay the full amount (for shaadi + valima) regardless?! Even though we only paid the deposit for the shaadi?
We didn’t sign any contract or anything, he just sent us an agreement after the deposit was made. But how does that mean that we have to pay the full amount when no labour or anything has been done and he didn’t even show us the agreement before sending it??
Does anyone have any experience with this? Can someone please please tell me if we’re obligated to pay the full amount? And how to approach the situation?

what does the agreement say? I would assume you don't have to pay because nothing was signed before. but I'm not a lawyer or anything...

Yeah! thats so dumb! if they know that the deposit was only for the shaadi then they need to be responsible for just that! and if nothing was signed, you should cancel the booking and threaten to get your deposit back! use a lawyer if you have to…im sure a decorator wouldnt want legal trouble considering the amount of under the table business they do!

No nothing was signed that's the frustrating part! :( We ended up cancelling the entire thing because of the bad customer service, though, he did not give back the 50% deposit. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that you had to experience such an annoying factor with a company trying to scam you for money. I'm looking for decor as well in GTA do you mind sharing their company name so I can also steer clear?
