usually always last name matters…specially in west
so for example ..if your name is sana and your father name is akram khan, khan is obvisouly a cast..
so what should be your last name akram or khan..
your father name or cast?
and if after wedding you chnaged your name
and for example your husband name is imran butt
what should be your last name
your husband name or his cast?
usually i noticed people use cast as a last name…???
If my pwince charming’s name is aamir khan, I would be happy with khan as my last name but if his name is something like Mr. Cool Rafiq, then I can’t really have Rafiq as my last name coz thats his dad’s name… so I would then be called Mrs. Cool not Mrs. Rafiq.
I don't think women should change their surname after marriage, both partners should keep their own surnames, it's more equal and fair.
Also I'm against the use of caste (zaat), tribe (qabeela) or status-titles (khan, shah etc.) as surnames because they are socially divisive.
I like the practice in our culture where ones surname is ones fathers first name...
So if my grandfather was called Abdullah Ahmed, my dad would be Ali Abdullah and I would be Asif Ali and my son would be Hussayn Asif and his son's surname would be Hussayn and so on...

Islamically, that's how its done ^
Culturally, some people associate themselves more with their caste and some don't. My mom's side has everyone's last name as Malik, but my dad's side has everyone with their dad's last name which I prefer. Also, religiously women are not supposed to change surnames after being married, but culturally they take on hubby's first name as surname (if you wanna change it).
family name and last name refer to the same thing- atleast in the US. Just choose one.
in the west...
1. sana khan
2. you have choices: don't change your name and keep sana khan. a hyphen can be added so it becomes sana khan-butt. or sana butt.
that's how it's done in the US, probably so that the family name stays the same through the generations. don't treat the last name as a caste, see it as representing an ethnic group.
Yep, it's not a religious injunction, just a cultural practice...
But it's a good cultural practice...
Especially for our countries where people are not judged as individuals but rather based on their lineage and group.
I think this system of naming would also be good in modern India e.g. if someone is called Deepak and their father is called Raj then their name would be Deepak Raj, rather than Deepak Acharya or Deepak Chaudhry etc.
My Indian friend tells me you can get discriminated against based on your surname/caste in certain organisations in India, it is illegal and against the Indian law but not everyone follows the law and some employers would rather employ someone with a Brahmin surname than someone with a Vaishya surname.
I know that inequality reason doesn't apply to the west, you be a winsor or a blacksmith and you'll get same treatment.
