yes

You are not going the get the same desi fragrance with only oil although the results will be the same and it will be a healthier option...add half oil and half butter.
I am making Gajar ka Halwa...
If you dont mind taste and texture drifting a bit then YES
Re: Urgent! - Can i use vegetable oil as a substitute for Ghee?
Not only desi fragrance but taste as well. Mithai and sweets in desi ghee are mindblowing. Nothing like it. However like Chora said you CAN use it if you want.
no way buddy. Ghee is Ghee!
Your halwa will taste equivalent to " dhood mai complete panni"
ewwww
don’t be so chinguus - use pure ghee ![]()
That’s right. Mithai made with desi ghee feels like solid rocks going down your esophogas and sitting in your stomach. :k:
Re: Urgent! - Can i use vegetable oil as a substitute for Ghee?
Vegetable oil should be fine. I think (although not a 100% sure) it would be the more healthier alternative.

Ok so i made the halwa...and my mother liked it very much she tasted it and isn't letting us eat because she wants to serve it to the guest tomorrow :D so i guess that's more then important to me.

I H-A-T-E the smell of desi ghee and would NEVER eat anything that has even trace amount of desi ghee in it. Its badboo is seriously offputting. Therefore, whenever I make halwa, I make it in oil and it tastes absolutely awesome to me.
Ammi, however, likes to add ghee in it so she has her dabba of aseel banaspati, which is not your pure clarified butter, but it manages to keep her happy and satisfied in terms of adding ghee in all kinds of meetha.
