I have never formally learned to read/write Urdu. However I used to read Quran quite a lot when I was a child. So the only reason I can read Urdu is the fact that the letters are similar.

It does take me a while though. My reading speed in Urdu is that of a firstgrader.

I too had learnt arabic, that’s why I can read urdu. Grandad used to ask me to read urdu newspaper articles to him sometimes and told me about the additional alphabets. That’s how I can read.
