urdu

i can read urdu, not really write it. how long would it take to learn how to write urdu ? is it fairly easy to learn? seems a little more tricky than english.

Re: urdu

Same here. I think it'll take some practice to get the hang of it.

Re: urdu

I have never formally learned to read/write Urdu. However I used to read Quran quite a lot when I was a child. So the only reason I can read Urdu is the fact that the letters are similar.

It does take me a while though. My reading speed in Urdu is that of a firstgrader.

Re: urdu

I too had learnt arabic, that's why I can read urdu. Grandad used to ask me to read urdu newspaper articles to him sometimes and told me about the additional alphabets. That's how I can read.

Re: urdu

I guess it would depend on how much time you spend practicing and it probably varies from person to person. I think it's trickier than English because you can't just throw letters together. It can be difficult to write a new word even if you know how to spell it unless you've seen the word (or a very similar word) before.
