Qurratul Ain Haidar ki Dilruba aur deegar afsaanay/novelletes..
TeerHi Lakeer --although I think it is over-rated but it is a must read choonke iska urdu noveloN mein bahut baRa shumaar hai..(Ismat Chughtai)
Lihaaf -Ismat Chughtai --wonderful collection of short stories!
A collection called Ishq kay numaainda afsaanay…the BEST!
Lekin I’ll give it a try.
I used to read Razia Butt and many other female/male writers, lekin I think that love stuff doesn’t make sense to me any more :)Also many authors, being females write a lot about ideals and how females should behave, and I don’t always agree. However I’ve read a novel/true story, and I’ve never discussed that before.
It’s called MaiN kisi ki beti nahiN written by an unknown lady. It’s about a girl who was just a kid during the partition time, and she describes the events as she remembers them. However that’s only a very small part of it, and I think she did that, to tell ’ke kahan se chale kahaN aa pohanche’. The interesting part starts when she begins to ’understand’ things. How her father and brothers gets involved with corruption, how they were teased in school because they were muhajir, and how things got worse from there.
It’s about her struggle into the ’gandh’ and then how she tries to get out of it, but because of the ’muashra’ she fails every time. So she ends up being a modern call girl for politicians, religious figures and businessmen etc.
It’s not a ’shahkar’, nor is it a fair writing, it’s her book from the begging to the end. However it does raise a lot of questions, about the muashra, the inferiority complex, the way human tries to blame everyone else but one self for every bad thing that has happened in ones life, a lot of feelings, ex. at one point she writes about, her brother who wanted to buy her, she was wearing a burqah so he didn’t know who she was, and so much more. There are also a lot of details about her relationships with men – most of them are not necessary – but that’s her book.
Pathar, Zaib, and Saiqah paRha hai?
And Dil diya aur dehleez, Shahkaar, Mahi mahi kookdi meiN…bagi ba’d meiN

Mr. Fraudia,
Zarguzisht is by Mushtaq Ahmed Yousfi.
btw, I like your taste of humour. Try also, Muhammad Khalid Akhtar, 'khoya hoa ufaq' is classic. He and shafeeq ur rehman were classfellows and friends since childhood.
peer e kamil [my hot favourite] lahasil [just the best]
and others also very very good like hasil, zindagi gulzar hai, imaan umeed aur **muhabbat** .
kisi ko ye writer pasand hain??
I'd started reading his 'Snakecatcher and other stories' - I quite like reading hindi/urdu/punjabi work translated into English - but honestly speaking, these stories sort of weighed me down a little, and I didn't finish reading all of them. I did read his 'Maar-geer' (The Snake Catcher) and 'Obsure Domains of Fear and Desire,' though. Maybe I'd be able to read, appreciate and understand his work better at a later time.
IBN SAFI N UMERA AHMED ROXXxzzzzz (lub their ny piece …but especially sif-e-sikan one in Imran series and PEER-e-Kamil PBUH in Umera Ahmed))
i also love to read Barrister Mirza Amjab Baig’s cases. (very informative)

Not only Zarguzisht but I recommend everyone to aslo read Aab-e-Guum by Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi. In fact all of his 4 books are classics
Zarguzisht
Charaagh Talay
Khakum ba Dahan
Aab-e-Guum
Also one must read "Chakiwara mein wisaal" by Muhammad Khalid Akhtar". It may appear as a cheesy, C-grade romantic novel when you start it but man does that grasp you in and you want to finish it before putting it down.
My last recommendation to everyone is "Raja Gidh" by Bano Qudsiya. Raja Gidh is availaible on Kitaabghar.com to read online for free. You may not enjoy it reading that way, though. Urdu novels are meant to be read while you are sitting on your bad or recliner. Not by gazing at computer screen
