not sure if its been posted here before but its soo cute :D…no offense to pathan brothers and sisters ![]()
Well, people usually think it is funny when pathans
try their mettle at speaking urdu.
And to be honest a pathan who is new to urdu does
speak the language in a funny way. So following is the
story of a poor pathan boy sherdil khan trying to take
his urdu grammar exam.
One of the questions in the urdu grammar part of the
exam was to rewrite incorrect sentences. One of the
sentesces read:
“mera dost aati hay”
Now ofcourse the correct sentence would be ,“mera dost
aata hae.” But for sherdil there wasnt any problem
with what was written.
Sher dil read the sentence, re-read it, closed his
eyes and read his again. He nervously twitched around,
trying to get a glimpse of his neighbours papers but
was unsuccesful. HE then tried to vocalize the
sentence to try to get a “feel” for its correctness.
“mera dost aati hay” he hummed. THE SENTENCE IS
CORRECT, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, he thinkS.
Afterall, this is how we speak URDU: mera dost aati
hay, tum kya karti hay etc…so there cant be anything
wrong with whats written.
Suddenly sherdil had a lightbulb momment AHA!, he
proudly scribbled the answer on the paper and left.
The next morning the urdu teacher came across a paper
named Sherdil Khan and in the grammar section of
“jumlay darost karayn” was a sentence:
Incorrect: “mera dost aati hay”
Answer:“mera dost HAATHI hai.”
