New York, September 5th, 2005: Indus Media Group (IMG) of Pakistan has announced that it plans to launch a new premium channel called “INDUS” in December of 2005 along with Indus Music for Urdu language viewers in North America and Europe. INDUS will be the 5th addition to current bouquet of satellite channels which IMG operates in Pakistan: Indus Vision, Indus Plus, Indus News, and Indus Music. This is part of a growing trend of South Asian channels packaging programming specifically to target ethnic viewers in markets outside their native region. GEO and ARY launched dedicated streams to the United States and Europe in 2004, while the government owned Pakistan Television (PTV) has had presence in the United States and Europe through third-party PRIME TV since 2000.
