A weird thing happen today that really hurt me as I want expecting that from someone I really respect..I had an exam and it was the last one for the summer course I’m taking so today was the last day and after that we were suppose to wait for our professor to give us back our scantrons with the grade on it. anyway, after the test I waited for other class mates to come out of professor’s office so I can go in and make him adjust my grade because I deserved credit for one of the questions
Ok so I went inside and told him what happened and why I couldn’t get the answer on the scantron right but he laughed at me. He obviously didn’t believe me and made me explain it to him like hundred times why I deserve credit for that. And then he told me that he would do it ‘if that would make me go away (in a serious tone). I got embarrassed and muttered something like “ok I’m going away then.Thanks.” and he responded by saying ‘GOOD bye’ very loudly and turned away towards his computer. I thought it’s very rude for him to say that. Why do you guys think he did that?? I dont think I did something wrong.. did i? I need to ask him something but im hesitating to call him..what should I do? I know I’ll be confronting him again as Im taking another class with him next semester too.
There is no use insisting to a professor once he says the grades are alright. If he had realized his mistake the first time you mentioned to him, he would have corrected it. By insisting we create trouble for ourselves.
If you get a chance, apologize to him for insisting too much, and tell him that next time you would try to perform better. It is better to have good relation and impression on a professor whom you would encounter in future as well.

I'm sorry to hear your story. :( He did like he isn't a professor. Don't talk to him too much.
Maybe he was joking? Like I know a lot of my teachers used to do that 'Ohhhh not you again Irsah!, how many times have I told you not to bug me' or 'Go away! Leave me in piece...I'll do it if you keep your mouth shut now'
And the professor didn't say anything about why he wouldn't award you with the credit? thats stupid. Reminds me of what happened with me in uni couple of months ago. I thought i did very well at one of my exams and was highly confident i'll get between 75-80%. When results came out, it said that exam not submitted. I was so shocked so went to the professor. He took my details, asked 2 of my mates who went with me whether i was in exam etc and said to call him in a week's time while he tries to see what happened. Called him and he had forgotten the whole damn thing so told me to come back. I took my friend with me, he made us go through all the exam papers to see whether i could find mine, we couldn't. He got the register from the office of the day and i showed him my signature which proved i was at the exam. He then said in a casual tone why i needed a body guard with me at all times and why i couldn't go to him alone. I thought he was joking so am like shes my friend and we're always together at uni. He told us to come back while he further tries to find my exam. The week after that was holidays at uni for a week, i went in to see him with my husband while on our way for shopping. Knocked at his office door, he opened the door and actually shouted at me for taking someone with me at all times to his office, and why i couldn't come alone. My husband was like am not coming in your office, i'm waiting in the corridor. He goes you can't wait in the corridor and that you have to go away from that corridor. I was well pi**ed but wanted to know what happened with my exam so told hubby to wait downstairs, and went in scared. He was normal suddently and made me go through all the exam papers again. Couldn't find mine so he gave me a new paper and gave me a student's paper who had scored 65% and told me to copy the answers. I was so dumbfounded, am like but what happened to my exam, am sure i would've got above 70% easily. He got annoyed, took the other paper away and told me to do the exam there and then. By then, it had been about 7 weeks since i had done the exam so i was like, i need some time to study again. He told me to go away, study and come back in a week's time for the exam. I was well angry, told my friends and hubby and friends said i need to go higher to management. So went to the head of BA, gave him my statement and everything. He was so shocked and wanted me to keep it hush and said he'd investigate. He was like you can bring anyone to any of the professor's or his office and that there was absolutely no problem. He chased it up, spoke to the professor, found my exam in which i had scored 80% and asked whether i wanted to take it up professionly in a uni's hearing etc but by that time i was so sick of the whole think that i let it go and told him to give a verbal warning to the professor. While i was in the prossess of complaining and the management had yet not gone to him, i had a class once a week opposite his office and had glass walls. Was so scared the whole time, he left msgs with that professor for me to go see him, i didn't. Then one day i was in the class and he came and just sat next to me n a chair. i was so pissed. He was like i've been waiting, when are you coming to do the exam. I said i did not want to as i had already done it once and that i do not want to talk about it. he stared at me and left. After that, we saw wach other couple of times but ignored, i tried avoiding that corridor since the day i left uni. It was freakin harrassment. Now i
think i should've taken it up, it would've served him a lesson but the management did say he'd do anything to prove me wrong.

That's shocking! Yes I think you should have took the matter further and had him disciplined. Sounds like a racist to me.
Yeah i think you annoyed him when you said "i'm going away then" because he perceived it as sarcasm. whatever...don't take it too much to heart...it's just a few more lectures than the class will be over.
Bloody hell- these scenarios sound really terrible. Always make sure you put your opinions across and don't just 'ignore' what's happening to you for the sake of it. Contact your student union if you have to and they'll assist (or should do) you in any way they can. Sometimes lecturers forget that they were once students themselves- the power gets to their heads. Eejits. x
The stereotype of Asians being passive (in the UK anyway) also doesn't help when trying put your point across- be assertive and show them you mean business.

Tell me did he say it in class that you or anyone else can get the credit for an answer that you marked wrong? Did anyone else get credit for answers that they marked wrong.Usually things like these are handled at the end of the class, and the professor either agrees or disagrees to that. Aren't his grading procedures defined in the sylabus or something?
One thing I'd like for ypu to consider is that those professors are also human beings and can have a what you would call a "bad day" and need a break.
Hope it's just a case of a bad day for him.

but i did deserve the credit for that question this is the only reason i went through all that trouble..but he kept making excuses and pushing it...btw i dont think i need to appologize as i didnt do anything wrong..but i guess i would have, but he shouted at me for no reason & i dont even wanna confront him again..

:( he wasnt joking or anything thats why i was upset..he seemed like he was really annoyed by me..

omg thats just plain harrassment! i cant imagine passing by his door every other day.. racism i guess??

i dont know about any other student getting credit for this but there was no question of saying no because he did say it infront of class that if you put the answer worng on the scantron but on the question paper the answer is marked right, he will give us credit for that answer and he seemed pretty cool abt grading before..

i dont think i should make it a big deal but again atleast three of the online quizez i took are not showing on webreport. im gonna email him about it..
well i can't say why he wasn't giving you the credit to begin with but when he told you that he would 'give it to you if it would make you go away', he was giving in and was prepared to give it to you.
it probably annoyed the hell out of him when you just went away - after all the explaining, if you really thought you deserved the credit, when it was offered to you (in whatever circumstances) you just walked away, so he probably feels you wasted his time for nothing.

i did not just walk away he did give me the credit at the end & obviously i had to go because he was really irritated. my point was he made me explain it to him so many times why i deserved it & wht not, when he himself said in class he would give it in this case..
