Ups and Downs in Bangladesh

This is in reference to the article by Kuldip Nayyer in Today’s Dawn. In particular I want to hear people’s views about the more Islamic face that Bangladesh is supposedly showing (Long Kurtas…“like the Arabs”, Allah Hafiz instead of Khuda hafiz and arabic on buildings etc.). Some of the question that come to mind are:

  1. Is Bangladesh returning more to a Muslim identity as opposed to a Bengali Nationalist Identity?

  2. Is this just a passing phase spurred on by the BNP-JI Coalition or do you see a more fundamental shift?

2a. If so do you think they will want a closer relationship with us (if not a reunion maybe a loose confederation a couple of decades from now? yes I am a dreamer thankyou very much)
