if ppl avail a facility to show off then they have serious issues to deal with. they should go see a doctor.
^ and ppl who think that the ppl mentioned above avail these facilities/luxuries to show off, have even bigger issues to deal with. they should also see a doctor. :-D

I think very few ppl are making an argument thats its wrong to have domestic help, but that its a luxury, not a necessity. Thats it.

didn't really go through all the posts. however, i was referring to the original post.
it depends on an individual to what s/he considers as a luxury or a necessity. as this is need basis. for somebody a necessity might be
considered as a luxury while for some, the same necessity can be considered as a luxury. simple as that.
The servant situation is not that bad in Pakistan as it is made out to be. Women who don't work and have 2-4 childern, not living in joint family atmosphere, are more than full time household wives. They deserve to have servants. But there is a difference between having a 24 hour basis servants vs having cleaning lady coming to home and laundry guy picking your clothes and delivering next day.
Men who work in private firms do work an average to 8-10 hours a day. With kids 'n all, the kitchen managing and cooking takes a lot more that what it seems. Imagine having different schedules for your kids to go to school and come back home, while you have to give them warm food. I think it's pretty reasonable to have few part-time servants coming to your house to do chores that consume a lot of time and energy. Plus, it's good earning opportunity for those poor people as well or else they are out of business/jobs.
from a servants point of view i just want to say if the people u r working for are nice, then in a world which wasnt meant to be fair u find yurself in a not so bad situation. On the otherhand if the people u work for are looooooozers, makes life a head ache, but then as someone once told me, evain nhay janat milnee.
We have some servants back home, my grandma has one for cleaning, one for washing dishes and clothes. I have aunties there but they have other business to take care of Allah knows what ] .
Two things i can get out of it one which you mehnaz and faisal bhai have mentioned. Other when you have servants doing your job one usually has a lot of time on their hands and one can do something good. Join school, or some sort of a social service organization...etc...
Sadly many women think buying makeup and clothes all day long and in the evening go on tea party is their life.. I wonder how can people live life like that.
