upgrading to vista for FREE

i just brought myself a laptop recently (acer 5051 - love it!) and can upgrade to vista for free (all i pay is £10 p&p) should i go for the upgrade?

also, i need advice on a couple of issues…

  • i brought the laptop as standard and would like to order more ram would there be a big difference in doubling my ram from 512 to 1024? (it can be tad slow sometimes so i’m hoping this would fix it) i have seen ram for about £30 on ebuyer.

  • also, i’m thinking to upgrade to vista sometime soon (once i get my ram) and was wondering whether its advisable for me to go ahead and install my programs and put my media on here now or wait untill i have my ram and vista?

Re: upgrading to vista for FREE

yea for da vista upgrade .. i would suggest u 2 have atleast 1gb ram in ur laptop...

Re: upgrading to vista for FREE

i forgot to mention i have an onboard graphics card so it uses the laptop ram - would 1 gb still be efficient?

Re: upgrading to vista for FREE

Re: upgrading to vista for FREE

i have a 1 gb ram and 1.6 Ghz processor and i "bought" vista and loaded it and it slowed down my comp..and my anitvirus wont work and my internet wont connect., and there are a gazillion other problems..i wud say wait for some update packs before u do it..my prof works for ibm and cisco and even they stopped the switching to vista because of the bugs.

Re: upgrading to vista for FREE

I also have AMD Turion dual core with 2 GB RAM but I won't be upgrading even though the upgrade is free... I might just order the upgrade but not install it.

Re: upgrading to vista for FREE

I have it on a laptop with 2gb, with a graphic card that has its own memmory, it works fine but the OS has bugs. Although it wont cause any serious problems.

Which Vista edition can u get?
