Upgrade XP to Vista

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

Next question: How do I uninstall Vista?

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

:rotfl: Format your drive bro, install xp and you’re good to go.

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

It went well. thanks lol
just one question tho:...i keep having to right click and select 'Run as Administrator'...how do i change that to where i can just double click and go. Example: i put a short cut for IE on desktop, but if double click it, it won't work;however, if i right click and select 'Run as administrator' it works like a charm. Why's that? And yes i am logged on as Administrator and i have disable user account environment to 'Elevate without consent'. I'm on Vista Ultimate.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

Have you disabled UAC from the Control Panel as well? If not, try that.

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

Yea i figured that y/day...Thank you all so much.
Yo! this is my last question, promise!
So i installed vista from within XP cuz um it was 'd/l version'. So eventhough i did the clean install, i still see the old windows folder and the files still there....can i just delete that? or is that intertwined with Vista?
I really just want a clean vista install on my machine nothin else. Oh and before u suggest boot from vista dvd, my bootable ISO didn't boot so i had to install from within xp. :(

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

Is it called windows.old? If so, then yes, it's safe to delete it.

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

what a waste of resources that was…:bummer:
Here goes:
I’m back to XP for the past two days…because: (i can hear sum ppl laughin…u stop it right this min…i can explain)
So…the vista kept freezing up and it would require a reboot, everytime it froze. By that, i mean like it’d be running great and everything, and all of a sudden it just freezes, mouse and all. And you know how sometimes your audio gets stuck and u hear the frozen static of audio, it would do one of those each and everytime. In relation to this problem, I was searching forums and just about everywhere, all i found to be the cause or read was that the drivers were not updated, or people thought that’s what it was. I updated the all my drivers with the vista ones, ran driver detective, and everything looked great. But, still the same problem.
So as a last resort, i called up Asus, because i have their MB, and the guy told me that my board is not vista compatible and although i may have already updated all drivers (VIA, USB, LAN, AUDIO, ETC)…they cannot guarantee it will run vista properly, so i was told to revert to XP or get a MB that is vista compatible.

So question now:

First of all Rocky, when u said ppl have come back to XP, did they say why? are their cases like mine…?

Secondly…for anyone that knows: Do i really have to have a motherboard that is vista certified? I won’t know unless i do the swap and go through the hassle all ova again, but…any feedback beforehand would be great.
Also, as long as my drivers update, isn’t that the main conflict usually. And i’ve come across tons of ppl on MSDN and other forums who complained of vista freezing. Dell has a solution but that’s for Dell, specifically. What do ppl with custom machines do?

System specs are:
Asus P5VD2-MX SE MB
P4 3.4GHz HT 800FSB
ATI RADEON X1050
1GIG RAM
WD 250gig HDD (SATA)
500W Power Supply

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

This sums it all up dude!

Don't blame it on Vista :p I have been running Vista for the past 3-4 months now. And am very satified with its perfomance and stability. I am running 64bits Ultimate, with all the eye candy and Aero and 3D desktop enabled. and it runs like a train for me. LOL

I also have XP installed as dualboot, just in case. But I didn't even need to go back there for anything so far. All my programs still run under Vista. Specially programs like Adobe CS, and I also use Pinnacle Studio for Video Editing, both run smoothly and even faster than under XP, just because both support 64 bits CPU's.

None of these is Vista compatible, apart from the power supply :D
so what you need it a major upgrade.

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista

oh but i'm not blaming Vista...i absolutely love(d) it....i wish i could revert to using it on a stable-basis.
i'm just seeking solutions for my issue....unless gettin a MB that's 'vista certified' is the absolute last option (Pain in the rear though i tell ya...)

Re: Upgrade XP to Vista
